Donating YT 30K Club Member | Latex toy warning I had bought some little soft latex toys for Roxie and Cali got one and I didn't realize until later that she had eaten 1/4 of a small one. That was Friday, Yesterday she was very lethargic, walking hunched over and not eating as usual. By last night she was restless and shaking really bad, so I took her into the er vet and they did xrays and said they didn't see any obvious blockage but her tummy was full of food and she had a lot of gas in her tummy. I opted to bring her home and watch her as she was not throwing up. This morning she pooped out these huge pieces of yellow latex, I honestly do not know how she passed them. She is acting much happier now. So I have thrown out all latex toys. I just wanted to warm anyone who has a strong chewer and was not aware that they could eat the latex. The vet also saw on her Xrays that she has spondylosis of her spine and he said she had a grade 4/4 LP. So she is pretty much a mess! He said I would get my money back from the breeder! Cali is only going to be 3 in June! Another reason to really research the Breeder you buy your pups from. I got CAli before I found YT.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I don't buy the latex toys just because of that. Thankfully the couple that we had my baby tends to ignore them. Thanks for the warning. Glad to hear that she is feeling better.

| Thanks for posting this warning that had to be scary. poor baby, at least it came out. I too bought before finding YT, and I am so glad I did find it. Our first yorkies always loved the latex.. but they do rip apart.. so we do not use them any more. Puppy hugs to your baby.. |

| It's almost impossible to buy dog toys or anything else for that matter that isn't made in China and their products are responsible for a lot of health concerns. I'm so tired of it all!!!! As for LP, well sometimes it doesn't show up right away, and some breeders are not even aware that a stud or bitch has had this problem in their background. My Zada came from a reputable breeder who shows Yorkies, but Zada had surgery in both knees a few months after I got her. She had a grade 3 in both knees) I let the breeder know about this, but I certainly didn't get any financial help from her. I got Azrael from the same breeder and she has different parents than Zada, but yet she has a grade 2 in both knees. She may never get any worse, and I doubt she will now since the knees haven't changed for almost 3 years. I do hope your baby gets the surgery that she needs. A grade 4 is the worst. |

| Patti, I'm glad Cali passed the latex, but I am stunned at the diagnosis of spondylosis at her young age. What did the Vet say about treatment? Sheila |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It was the ER vet who I do not like, I could tell when he first treated Cali when she was a puppy that he did not like small dogs and pretty much has the attitude "what do you expect when you have small dogs" anyway he said to really limit her jumping and as far as the Lp he just said I am sure you know she has LP, which my vet mentioned when I got her. He didn't tell me what grade they were but in the medical records I got at discharge it said that ahe had Bilateral grade 4/4 medial luxating patellas. No one ever mentioned a grade to me before and she has never shown any signs of problems with her back legs. She is due for her heartworm check and I will talk to the vet.

| My mom told me that several latex toys were recalled a few months ago - so we threw all of Baileys out. As far as LP - 4/4 and no signs??? I'd get a second opinion. Bailey is 1/4 and I was told about it at her very first puppy check up. A year later she is still a 1/4. She had trouble with it in November. The Dr. recommended surgery but that she was still a 1/4. The Dr. said that jumping off the furniture was not a contributor - but that running and weight was. So, Bailey lost a few ounces ('bout 18 of 'em) and has not had any trouble since. Good luck!! |

| Patti - how scary! I am so glad that Cali passed the toy pieces. Hopefully she is on the road to recovery. Did she pass the blood as well? That is REALLY scary to see blood when you should see poop. I had a latex toy scare from my really bratty Chattie. Somehow she napped Chizzie's favorite ball -- one of those yellow balls from PetSmart that has the bumps all over it. Meanie Pants Chattie chewed all the tips off the little bumps. She was rather proud of her self. Poor Chizzie, I had to throw her favorite toy away. |

I thought that it was strange that she would be a grade 4 LP with no symptoms. I think he just liked pointing out all her problems. I have refused to have him treat my dogs in the past and waited until the other er vet was available or once I brought Cali home and took her back when the shoft changed. I really don't like him and I am pretty tolerant.

Oh, he was one of 'those' types. (How can a Vet not like any kind of dog?!)Yes, I agree, you're better off discussing it with your own Vet. I am wondering if she has any pain in her spine. She sure doesn't act like it. I'll be anxious to hear what your Vet thinks. Sheila | |
