Default When Does Catch Me if You Can Stop?

Does anyone have any helpful hints regarding the Yorkie game of "Catch Me if You Can"?
Remi is pretty good at his obedience commands while on his lead, but when he is free he just loves to do the opposite of what we expect.

Remi comes when he is called (only if there is a treat in our hand and he knows the difference). He loves running through the house tempting us to follow. We refrain from making the chase a game, but he continues in his happy-go-lucky way, enjoying himself thoroughly. He is walked and exercised every day, but the Catch Me game seems to be the highlight of his day.

Thanks in advance for letting me vent!

I think sometimes it never goes away. I never trust Lacy off-leash unless we are in a secure place. She's so fast and doesn't listen or come when called.

I had the same problem with Gracie. She is still not the best, but she is getting better. In some way you must be reinforcing the behavior that you do not want. I stopped using the word "come" and just called her by name, "Gracie". I just followed her and kept calling "Gracie" until she stopped, typically that was when I had her cornered. Sometimes I had a treat to give her when she stopped for me. She still won't "come", but instead she will stop and wait for me to pick her up. Just make sure that every time you are trying to catch your little one that it is not for something unpleasant and you are not using that time to scold him. The other option is to keep him in a gated off area so he can't get away from you.

A.J does this too and he is 1 1/2 old. He listens so great when he's on a leash and we're on walks, but the minute we get back into the house, his selective hearing kicks in. If I have a treat in my hand he is the perfect little angel though.

Duchess is only 16 weeks and def loves that game. Just the other day, she zipped out the door behind my son and we probably played that game for about 15 darn minutes...I tried my best to not be angry but wanted to pounce on her like a fox...everytime we almost had her, she took off! lol. She loves running around bushes and trees so we always end up having to double team her and my son will bring out a piece of sliced turkey!!! It's funny afterwards but since I was running late to work, I was not all that amused that particular day!! lol My other 2 girls, Diva & Foxxy, will just sit on the porch like "awww, you're gonna get it when momma gets you"...LOL Gotta Luv em!

Gizmo is 11 months old and I would appreciate it if you would let me know the answer to this question when you find out.

That's funny - but the truth! My Max doesn't think the game stops unless he's sleeping and then if you you make a move he's up and ready to start all over again! On the other hand, my Mia seems to have settled down since she was 1 1/2 as well. I think it depends on their age and personality - but then again... they are terriers!

Oh yea we know all about this game When I just got the puppy I thought it was cute but then I realized that it will be hard to train him to come to me when called. I quit that game and every time he would try to play that game when being called I completely ignore then go sit on my sofa and wait until he is going on his pet stairs on the sofa. I started on training him to come to me with treats just like you. Then I would give him treats every other time and slowely it started to work Maxi is still at training but dramatically improved. I cant really use "come" word when calling him because now he associates that word with the game so I say get your butt over here lol

Jamie is 6 1/2 months and he will come when his name is called IF he feels like it. However, we do have an understanding. Like with skin kids, if I get that certain tone in my voice and say "Jamison!" he will come directly in front of me and lay down and wait for me to pick him up. You just have to show em you mean business... sorta...

Snick's played this game once (he is about 10 months old now). I have a 6 year old boxer who is perfect and listening, I don't even need to use a leash. I am lucky because Snickers has followed in his lead. He will follow Seamus everywhere so if Snickers starts to wonder off, I will call him and Seamus at the same time and Seamus will come and Snickers will follow, then I will praise them both. I think that Snickers was trained so easily because he had a great role model.

I swear with each post I read, I was reading about Lucy! I guess I just have to realize that she's not intending to disobey us off-leash, she's just having fun!! We don't mind chasing her around because we get our exercise as well, hehe.

I hate you tell you this, but I don't think it EVER ends with Yorkies...

I have two 5 1/2 month olds, a 10 month old, a 1 1/2 year old, two 2 year olds, and a three year old...and it doesn't get ANY easier...

Some of them are there in a second "yes mommy what did you need??" And others wouldn't come if I were screaming at the top of my lungs...but if I have food they're suddenly little Roadrunners...lol
