New Puppy Yorkie Hello, i have recently just got a 8 week old yorkie. He is 12 weeks this friday. So i will be taking him to get his 12 week shots. I have some question about his visit there. First is do i need to get him on any heart worm medicine now? I just dont want the vet telling me i need this and that for my dog and come out of there with a 100 dollar vet bill. I am not a new dog owner, but this is my first Yorkie. Here are some pics of the guy, His names Noah. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...h_IMG_0940.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...h_IMG_0937.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...h_IMG_0936.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...h_IMG_0933.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...h_IMG_0927.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k1...h_IMG_0922.jpg

Please don't give him frontline or other meds. Can you see with the shots and then all the chemicles how it can really cause some serious health problems. There are MANY things that keep fleas and ticks off naturally. Also take a fresh stool sample in to have tested when you take him in. http://lowchensaustralia.com/pests/bites2.htm

| Hi and welcome to YT! You have such a cute baby. Yes, you should probably get him started on heartworm prevention soon. Definitely talk to your vet about it.

What a keeeuuuuute baby! I soooo want another baby, but hubby says no right now. Be prepared for the possibility of your furbaby getting nauseated from the shots. It may not happen for yours, but ours did and I called the vet right away, since these little babies can get dehydrated super fast and become seriously ill. The vet gave our girl a shot of subcutaneous liquid and something else for nausea and she was fine after that. For her final series of shots and now her 1 year boosters, we had her pre-treated so she wouldn't get sick.

I would suggest telling them you don't want the rabi shot until the last visit(Not sure what the age is in MI they have to have them by)..here in SC, it's 3 mos now, but, I wouldn't let them give mine hers until the last set of shots..I know here, they say start them on heartworm prevntitive around 6 mos of age, but, right now, the mosquitoes aren't out in MI. so, that won't be a worry right now..When you do start on heartworm preventitive, I would suggest the sentinel, it's a once a month pill, and my shepherd loves hers(it's a chewable tablet)..I like revolution also, but, don't like the mess on their backs..I'm going to start using sentinel this spring on all 6 of mine.. Maybe you'll be lucky like I was, none of my dogs got sick from shots, and none of them ever whined when getting them..that helps out...!
