Boarding or Not??? Me and my husband are trying to plan a trip, but we are not sure what to do with the little guys. His brother has 2 dogs that he has boarded at a local place and said that he was really pleased with them. I just feel horrible leaving my babies somewhere, with people I don't know. I am scared that something will happen to them, which makes the whole situation upsetting. I don't know what else to do though, because I have nobody to take care of them while I am gone. Plus, Oliver is so timid around people, I just know that he will be scared the whole time. Frankie needs drops in his eye 3 times a day, because he does not produce tears. I give them lots of love and attention, and they are used to that. I don't want them to basically be locked up for 3 days straight. I am considering just going alone, but I really want me husband to go with. What has been your experiences with boarding? Any other thoughts?

to or not to board that is the question I am the same way with leaving my babies. My husband and I have looked at several of those DOGGIE SPAS and they did not seem a lot different than boarding at any other place except the pens were larger. I have heard about kennels who have planned events an d play groups but we don't have anything around here like that. Last trip we took we snuck my Frenchie into the hotel with us and he did the tourist thing during the day. Did you consider pet sitters. Someone you know well enough to go by your house several times a day to feed, play with and let out your babies? My sons do it for me sometimes. By the way everyone seems to come alive at night around here. So don't feel snubbed if they don't answer during the day they will later.

Have you considered having a pet sitter stay at your house? That's what I do with Lady and it works really well. She also has dry eye, but her opthamologist said she needs artificial tears 4-6 times a day. My pet sitter stops in a couple times a day to do her tears, plus stays overnight. You will pay for more a pet sitter, but the peace of mind is worth every penny IMO.

We went over three years where our two would always travel us. This last year our vet offered limited boarding with only 4 openings max. We had both Rocky and Daisy there for 6 days and it worked out really well. Based on how long were gone, how much were away from the hotel, is whether or not I would think of boarding. Keep in mind I've only done it once and that's only because their vet who I trust, just offered this service. The one trip we took without them, we all felt like something was missing.

I talked to one of my friends last night and asked her to stay at my house while we are gone and she agreed!!! That was a huge relief for me. My mother in-law will still come a couple of times a day to let the boys out and give Frankie his eye drops. I still don't know what I would do if my friend was not available. I would like to hear others thoughts on boarding their babies. I know that the place we took the boys for neuturing also does boarding, but I just feel like they would be locked up the whole time we are gone and I just don't like that idea.

That's great to hear. Anytime you can get friends and or family to help, it puts your mind at ease. No matter how good the boarding facility is, they will be put up most of the time. Most facilities do offer to take your pet out for potty breaks, play time, and or grooming. Sometimes this is all included and sometimes there are extra fees. Think most people choose first to take their animals now on travel. If not, next option is family and friends, Professional Pet Sitting Service to care for your dog in your home, last but not least boarding with a vet, groomer or kennel.

| I wouldn't board Ellie unless I was really desperate. I am a major worrier and so many things come to mind that could happen without me there. I also have a long list of dos and don'ts for Ellie and nobody is going to follow those for me except people I know.

My sister uses one of her employees to come and stay at the house, or you can also check petsmart dog hotels..

I forgot about the petsmart pet hotel. I just looked at their website, but it doesn't show any prices. This sounds like a possible option though, since there is one in my area. Does anyone know how much they charge for a night at the Petsmart Pet Hotel?

| Please get people's opinions of this in your area first. There is a thread on YorkieTalk (taken from a news story) about a dog being abused there. Your location is probably fine, but some aren't...
