| Greetings Hello Everyone, I'm a first time puppy owner, and am in love with my new Yorkie, Roxi (3 months old)! She's got tons of energy and is a complete sweetheart. Aside from the typical house breaking issues, she's perfect. I just have a few questions and as I've read, I think I'm in the right place! My first question is about food. She has been eating Royal Canin and she seems to like it a ton. I'm just wondering if she's allergic to something in the ingredient because she is constantly biting her feet (and I've read that this is a sure sign of allergies). I recently purchased Solid Gold Hundchen Flockin (per reccomendation of a salesperson), and I'm wondering what your opinions are about this brand. I am also wondering how I can wean her off of the Royal Canin without upsetting her tummy too much. She currently eats 1/4 cup 3 times a day. What do I do? My next question is about baths/grooming. How often do you bathe your dogs? Last question...I think. I'm wondering if raw hide is ok for puppies. What do you all do for "chew toys" other than the rubber/plastic toys? Please excuse my ignorance, I'm a newbie FOR REAL! Any advice, comments, encouragement would be greatly appreciated! |

| Hi and welcome to YT your furbaby is adorable! as far as the food royal canine really isnt that great, but you will see you have many choices! you can go to this website http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ and read on the foods that are bad, good and great. usually 4-5 star foods are the ones you want to stick to. You should mix the 2 foods so she can get use to it and gradually take the old food away I bath my puppy once a week, but that too is your choice some do it more often and some do it 2 times a week. I hear that raw hide is not good for them because its not digestible, I also give Max bully sticks to chew on and he loves them! a few members sell them right here on YT and the are odorless ( some can smell really bad) Im sure im missing something but someone will post what I forgot lol. you will get alot of help here!

| Thank you so much! Once a week sounds great for us! I've been given so much advice and it's so hard to keep track. What I've heard most about baths is that she should only have one twice a month, which I thought was strange. I'd definitely do that if it's healthy for her, but I thought that she should be bathed more often. Thank you for your insight! She has a bully stick and she loves it too! I guess I am confused about all of the different types. |

| Hello, and welcome to YT. I am a newbie too I have been curious about the bully sticks myself. Where to buy, what are they exactly??? Not a rawhide, not a biscuit? Thanks for the great questions I will be interested in any replys you get. I bathe my Yorkie once a week and she's 8 1/2 months old. Other than that she starts to look like she's been rolling in cooking oil! Yuck

| Roxi is adorable!! Welcome to YT! Bella didnt get a lot of treats her first 10 months. I did give her plenty of plush toys though! Her breeder started her on Royal Canine (RC) and at 10 months old i weaned her from the puppy recipe to the one made for yorkies. She has never had any problems with it. She has not itched, had dry or flakey skin and has never chewed at her feet. Her vet is very pleased with her weight and her coat is shiney! She poops a small amount about an hour after she eats. Her right ear fell while she was teething but i gave her puppy vitamins with calcium just for extra support and it popped up about 5 weeks later. I have looked at other brands and so far am happy with RC. you can see the yorkie specific bag to get details about why it is dog specific. When bella was a pup i used her kibble to train her. She always wanted food when she was little! Since they eat so little, I tried to give nutrient dense food. I would not use treats to train her because I wanted every bite to count. If i switch to another food...it will most likely be organic..but i am still researching! Good luck with your new baby! |

| Thank you soooo much for welcoming me to such an awesome community! I will definitely consider your advice. She seems like she is really irritated when she bites her feet so it must be the RC (although she eats every bite of it). I'll definitely talk to my vet, once more, before I begin. You all are great! Ok...one more question! Do you all crate your sweeties? If yes, what size do you use? I am a teacher and am gone for a while. My husband comes home, when he can, to take her out, but I'm not sure if she is in the right size crate. Don't laugh, but I've purchased 3 crates (2 smalls, and one medium). The medium sized one has a divider that I use, and she loves it because it's wider. With that in mind, she had an accident in it, which she rarely had in her small one. What do you all suggest? |
