| Switching from pee pads to outside? I found this board after searching for help with my 3 year old Yorkie. I'm am soooo frustrated! She is currently going pee on her puppie pads, but never goes poo on them. I've just been picking up her poo. (I know it's terrible!) Well I now found spots by my closet (on carpet) where she's went pee! I am so frustrated with having poo and pee in my house! We're thinking of getting a second dog, but I don't want to do this before we get her straightened out. We're also thinking of having kids soon and I can't stand the thought of poo and pee everywhere! So I want to switch her to going outside. I am hoping that someone can offer some advice on how to transfer her to going potty outside! |

| hello and welcome , im gina... you joined a great site for information on our little ones.. this is what i did.. i still have lexi going potty inside, but wanted her to go outside to. i put a wee pad outside the door and after awhile got the hint. so now she goes on the porch on wee pad and i walk her and she does her pottying outside the house too... just praise, praise, praise when they finally pee or poo outside...

| I've always heard to move the pee pad closer and closer to the door and eventually place it outside until they get the hang of it. You're smart in not bringing another dog into the situation - I've never seen a case where one potty trained, trained the other, it's always the other way around! Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be! |

| I wouldn't do anything gradually - I would do it right away. It's not like she is already pad trained anyway. Start crate training her immediately.

| I agree with Erin. It takes 100% vigilence on your part. You will have to watch her constantly for quite a while. When you aren't able to watch her, make sure she is confined. It is VERY hard- I am going through this now. Lexie is getting so much better at the outside thing and I pray she gets it before winter hits!! We are having a lot fewer accidents these days so it does get better- you just have to hang in there!!!
