| Help!!! Going Potty on the Base-Boards I need help! I have caught Rocky hiking his leg and attempting the pee-pee on the base-boards. I have been training him to go outside, which he is doing really good at. He is starting to go sit at the front door of the apartment and whine when he needs to go. But the base-board thing is not cool. Any suggestions on how to get him to stop? |

| Casper did that a lot when i first got him except he liked the couch. i made sure to clean the area with resolve or spot shot to remove his mark and be very watchful of him! He's getting better at it. Once in a while i will catch him lifting his leg and i will startle him by saying HEY abruptly and immediatley taking him outside and saying potty. He still has accidents but is getting better. |

| These little guys can be so confusing sometimes. There are times when Nikko walks right up to the wee wee pad and pees on it. I get so happy and lavish all the praises on him. A little while later he walks right up to the wee wee pad, sniffs it and walks right past it and pees on my floor!! What gives? Maybe after they pee on it more than once they won't use it anymore?

| You have just possibly caught your dog marking in your house. It's something hard to break once they get into it. Is he fixed? Sometimes it will help stop the marking. Another thing to think about is getting a bellyband. A Bellyband is like a diaper for male dogs. It looks like a 3-4" wide belt that cover his wee wee. If he marks, he pees on the bellyband and not all over your wall or furniture. |

| No he is not fixed, he is only 12 weeks old. Do they start marking that early? |

| I don't really know myself, but I've read that the earlier the males are fixed the better to eliminate marking and hiking their legs. I've only had females for little doggies, so I've no personal experience.

| The vet said they will not fix puppy until they are 5-6 monthes old. I am going to get him fixed when he old enough. He has only done this a few times, I have caught him before he has a change to do it. I think he is doing this because he started hiking his leg on the trees, rocks, bushes, etc... outside to go potty, it might just be a house breaking issue. I hope. |

| It is so strange because Nikko is 6 1/2 months old and he still doesn't lift his leg to pee. He just sort of stretches out and pees that way. He has started marking around the house but not too much. He does that mostly outside when he picks up another dog's scent. I still haven't decided whether I want to fix him or not. I wonder why he doesn't lift his leg? I'll never understand him!!

I found this: Why do you early spay and neuter your Yorkies? My Veterinarian has a lot of experience working on small dogs and he has the special equipment they require. I have lost Yorkies altered by client veterinarians. I have never lost any Yorkies done by my veterinarian. Most people are under the misconception that you should wait till the dog is sexually mature before being spayed or neutered. I do not agree with that. When a male dog reaches sexual maturity they being to "mark" everything in sight looking for a female. Once they start to leg lift ("mark") you have a 50-50 chance that they will stop after being altered. It all depends on how ingrained the instinct is in their mind. By early spay and neutering my Yorkies before they go to their new homes, I reduce the risk of you having potty problems when they mature. Female Yorkies will also "mark" looking for a male. The difference is that most people think they just had a potty mistake. It is hard to tell as they do not lift their leg as high as a male. http://www.ryorkies.com/faq.html#q21

| Rocky sometimes hikes, buts it is not all of the time. He started it when he saw his playmate, Riley doing it. Riley is a 1 yr old schnauzer, who is fixed. I guess it is monkey see, monkey do. |
