Is he house broke or am I just well trained?? Hi all!!! Mojo is 5 months & doing very well with house breaking. The problem is I think I'm the one who is trained. He never "asks" to go out....it's alway me asking him. How do I get him to "ask"? I've heard some people use a bell tied on a string to the door. Has anyone tried this?

You're doing a great job! We trained our dogs to scratch the door. TInkerbell is way too good at scratching the door to go out (it's almost constant actually) but she just started doing this about a month or two ago. She's about 10 months now. So I think he will let you know with a little more time.

Joey (just turned 5 months) rings a bell to go outside and has for about a month. It works great! You just have to be prepared to let them go out when they want to go out whether it's to potty or not. Oh, and by the way, congratulations on your success!

| I remember saying " when will he give me a sign?" well it took awhile Im betting maybe when he was 7-9 months,, and his sign was... he goes up in front of me and sits and stares at me... thats it.. If Im watching tv he'll go up and sit beside it and stare at me.. saying " Its time" took me awhile to pick up on it..then one day it hit me... Oh, thats the sign!

How did you train them to use the bell? I think this would be great, cuz our front door isn't visable from the kitchen. (...and perhaps my teenage sons would get up from the computer if a bell rang.....lol...not )

This is something similar, I posted this a few days ago on another thread: I have heard of the bell method. Also take a look at this. Not sure if it works but looks interesting, it's a chime for them to step on. I have an Abbie, too! http://www.smarthome.com/6152.html
