| Socializing Bentley with my friends pom Last summer me and my friend started walking our dogs (male dogs) it was expected the first time they say each other there was barking, but there was no fighting. We have not socialized them since and so we knew we'd be starting over again when we started socializing them this spring. We started at my house. At that point we realized they only fought when we were around. other than that they were so preoccupied peeing on everything they didn't mess with each other. That was day 1. Day 2 we took them to the park. on the way to the park they had to be seperated in the car. We walked them around and then let them off the leash in a fenced in area. In there they were fine runnin around sniffing same areas but not overly close. When it was time to go home i called Bentley over and was hooking his leash, my friend called her pom Tyke over and was hooking his and a huge fight broke out. We saw tyke had blood on him, later we concluded he had bit his own tongue thank goodness. It was still a scarey ordeal tho. Day 3 we decided to try again. Still they had to be seperated in the car and when let loose in the fenced in area they did fine once again. How ever when we were walking they were constantly jealous of one another and ll growls were heard quite alot. Will they eventually get used to one another? Both our dogs have been socialized with other dogs and had no problems what so ever. So what is with the hostility towards one another? Any ways we can help speed up this process? Here are some pics from the days out. |

| Hmmm ... there seems to be a lot of questions about pups jockeying into alpha position today and that's what your pups are doing right now while they do this there will be lots of barking and growling and marking and there might even be some fights too but keep in mind that it's a dog thing and that they will eventually work it out the more they are together the faster this process will take place

| If fights only happen when leash is on them, it might be either you and your friend were tugging the leash or sending a nervous energy to the leash. That could start the fight. Be sure that the leash is always loose, very loose otherwise it could send a wrong message to your dog. Sometimes, you are not aware that you are doing it. I have seen a lot of people tightening up their leashes without knowing it when introducing their dogs. That is a big no-no to me. That is why in some situation dogs get along better when introduced without a leash.

| Should we just let them fight it out as long as it does not get to bad? Because we just try and pull them apart asap and tell them no. lol. I don't know how to go about the whole thing and I just want them to be comfortable around each other with out us stressin as well. We take them to parks alot and it is stressful because neither of our dogs are aggressive in general, so when kids come up they are friendly but once one dog gets more attention than the other they become jealous and a fight happens scaring the kids. We do try to seperate in these situaions. We have taken the stand that eventually they will be fine with each other and we just need to keep them around each other as much as possible until then. Today was a bit of break through they sat in the backseat together for the first time, but most of that time was spent looking out their OWN window. lol. I feel like they are brothers and we just have to set that they have their own boudaries lol |

| Another fight broke out today while we were at my house. Bentley was not on a leash but Tyke was. I was going to just step back and see how it went, it doesn't look like anything was happening, but Bentley like grabs onto him and will not let him go and its just a bunch of growling, it never looks like Bentley is biting him but after I pull Bentley off Tyke has wet fur on his back which makes me believe Bentley was biting him. The way Bentley holds on to Tyke, Tyke can't even move! Its not because of the leashes because Bentley was completely free when the fight happened and Tyke was not the one to start it, atleast not this time. |

| Are they both neutered? If not, that is probably why they are fighting. |

| no they are not. We have never had a problem with them being aggressive before so we didnt think that was a problem. My friend's sisters dog was neutered and after that turned mean . . still is mean. . So she refuses to get Tyke Neutered. Bentley has been used to mate with so I have not gotten him neutered for that reason. |
