More Yorkie Questions :) Ex-Pen, Crate, etc. First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome (even though I have a yorkie/chihuahua mix) and advice on my thread last week. As you all know, this puppy is taking up all of my time when I'm not working, so I haven't had much of a chance to come back on here and properly address everyone who posted. You were all correct in that it just took more time for him to adjust and be comfortable with me, as he now will take treats from my hand and runs up to me more often He still freaks if I go to pick him up, but as some of you said, due to his size (3.5 pounds) it makes sense that this is just a typical thing. On another note, I have a question about the new exercise pen I just bought for him. It is a precision 30"H pen and it SAYS it will EASILY snap on to a dog crate to give them extended play. This is exactly what I would like to do, as I don't want the crate in the middle where he would be able to climb on top of it and try to get out and hurt himself while I am at work. I feel like a complete idiot because there are no directions with the crate and so I am assuming this is an "easy" thing (as the box says), but I cannot for the life of me figure out HOW! Please don't laugh at my ignorance and just help LOL Also, on the picture it shows only the hexagonal configuration when clipped to the crate and I would prefer the long run-like 6' configuration instead so that he will have more room for his "zoomies." lol Is this possible? In addition, I have read these little monkeys can climb the 30" pen and so I need to make a top for it. Can this be done with just a painting tarp (I happen to have one of those) and maybe binder clips or ties or something or will he be able to chew out of it? I want to make sure he is safe so that I am not worried all day at work So for now, until mommy figures this all out, the poor guy is stuck in his crate. Please help Pixel and Pixel's mommy so he can get out of jail and have more room and alleviate some of my guilt for leaving him while at work !! Thanks so much for any advice you have for me!!! P.S. I have found that when we are on the couch together he REALLY enjoys running at me and bopping me with his nose and then running backwards until I "get him" and then he bops me again. LOL Do any of your yorkies do this?? It is the cutest thing!!! - Tonya

THANK YOU AMD!!! I REALLY need some help with this because I hate that my $70 ex pen I bought yesterday is just sitting there unused while my baby is stuck in his crate

I have tried googling and going to the manufacturers website but STILL have no idea about how to attach the pen TO the crate. Can someone help please?

How is the x-pen supposed to hook together to form the hexagon shape? Maybe you would use those fasteners to fasten it to the sides of the crate??? I think this would work with a metal crate. The x-pen I have has 3 latches to hook the 2 loose ends together so when it is unlatched, it swings open like a doorway. I use a plastic style "cat" crate in which the top comes off to form a bed. I couldn't attach the x-pen to it, I just keep the crate inside the pen.

Thanks Chelop555 It says on the box that it "easily snaps onto a crate" and they show a picture of it when it is attached and it's hexagonal. I can get it onto that shape just fine, as it's the kind you can really configure any which way (Precision Exercise Pen), but I just can't figure out how it easily SNAPS onto the crate and it's driving me nuts! LOL

Is your crate from the same company. Maybe it only snaps onto thier crate. Maybe the legs would slide into grooves. Does your crate fit in the pen? Maybe you could only roof over that part so he can't vault over the side of the x-pen from the roof of the crate. Or center the crate away from the sides? They are such escape artists! I worry all day that Daisy has escaped! And her pen is in an empty room so she can only go so far! I am just trying to keep her closer to her pee pads!

I'm actually not sure if they are the same company or not, but it sounded like it would attach to any wire crate (which is what I have). MY crate will fit into the pen but I'm too worried he will hurt himself trying to jump on it. That's why I want to attach it TO the crate instead. Yeah, that's what I'm trying to avoid - the worrying about him all day long and that he got out and got hurt!!! LOL Thanks for your help and the suggestions

| I looked up the crate online and it says this about the pen: Removable drop pin allows pen to be easily joined with other pens or to your crate for extra play space. Multiple units can easily be linked together for increased area.

Thank you! I don't know how to work the "drop pin" though LOL Can someone tell me? If they mean the pins on the ends, I CANNOT get them out! I tried taking off the little bolts at the bottom but they won't budge. Is that how you do it and I just need to use more elbow grease?
