Litter Training We are currently using Purina's Second Nature Dog Litter system, and like it for the most part. Are there any other users out there and what are your thoughts?

I would be interested in this too. I'll be getting my new baby in February and I'm trying to decide which way to train her.

litter training right now we are teaching belle to go in the litter box...we have puppy litter in it and paper around it.....its too cold for her to go outside yet...and right now she is doing pretty good she will pee or poo other places but most of the time she goes there...when she goes we always give her a treat and if she goes other places we give her a little smack on the nose tell her bad...and so far its been working...she is doing good

We spent the first 4 weeks training buddy to go outside and then the last two weeks we have used the litter exclusively. We use the Purina second nature dog litter. For the first 24-48 hours I took him to it every couple of hours and when he woke up to get used to the idea. Then on day three he spent the day in a bathroom with his kennel, food & water, toys and litterbox. He used it everytime and did not have any accidents in the room. When he is free in the rest of the house I have been taking him to it every few hours to make sure there are no accidents and he always goes right away. This past weekend he has started going back there on his own. If I had to do it over again I would use it from the day we brought him home, i think switching to it a month later made it a little more difficult than it would have been otherwise. One other recommendation is change the litter frequently, if buddy thinks it needs changed he will pee next to the box instead of in it!!

I am using it- first she started on the pads immediately & then I moved in the box with the pads in it & then I put the litter in it with the pads on top, that was the biggest change for her LOL! the second she stepped on it it was like whoa what is that & she took off LOL!! I'm still a little apprehensive about taking the pads out right now maybe in a week or two & yeah she has been trying to figure out the whole pellet thing I go in there sometimes & it looks like she's had a little party!!

Please be careful with the litter. We were using it, but Bailey got one of the pellets stuck in his mouth, left to right. We thought we were going to have to rush to the vet, he got it stuck up there really good. Then my boyfriend stuck his hand in his mouth and flicked the pellet out. No more litter, he was too distracted by eating the pellets (my little furry vacuum cleaner). WHEW!

Buddy does play in the litter a little bit especially when it is new, however he also likes to drag around a puppy pad. I am hoping part of it is just his age and he will outgrow it if we stick with it.
