Do any of you put boots on your Yorkies in winter? Hello everyone Tootsy always comes back from her walks in winter with very wet, cold and dirty paws and I was wondering if I could get her to wear boots. I see on the other forums that some people feel that you need to get them used to boots at a very early age. Tootsy is 4yrs old now and I am wondering if I would be wasting my money trying to get her to wear boots? Have any of you tried using boots on your Yorkie and did they stay on? How long did it take your furbaby to accept them? What make is the best for comfort and for staying on? Hope you can help. Luv Yvonne xxx

the only problem with boots being used all the time is that the toenails will need trimming more often. I use baby socks on Hensleigh to stop him scratching his coat out but when I walk him he goes bare footed. I always dry his feet if they are wet after a walk or going into the garden though.

Thanks for the reply. Tootsy comes back so dirty, in the winter months, after her walk in the local wood and she puts up such a fight when I want to clean her feet and legs! I just thought that maybe boots would be the answer if I could get her to wear them. Perhaps I should just carry on washing her each time, as you do with yours. Luv Yvonne xx

| I do use boots for my Yorkie in the winter. Sometimes the ice cuts his paw and I feel better when he has his boots on for some protection. I trained him at home when he was 7-8 months old..at first he really walks funny with all 4 legs spread outwards. It was funny to watch and he got used to it pretty quickly and then we started going outside with it. I believe they can be train at any age. It just takes some patience and persistence to get them used to it.

Can anyone recommend a pair that will stay on? I spent more time looking for one or the other at night on our last walk that I just gave up. They just don't stay on otherwise yes he would be wearing them in the ice and snow. He loves it so I do wind up carring him after he does his thing because his feet burn from the ice and de-icer they put down.

How about Ultra Paw dog boots. They claim that they do stay on. I see there is another make called GripTrex, which make the same claim. I have been told not to buy 'cute' shoes, but ones used on sled dogs, as these are the only ones that will stay put. The boots are light so it shouldn't cost much to have them posted from the US or Canada. Luv Yvoone. xx Last edited by Franceen; 10-14-2008 at 03:26 PM.
