| dazed an confused-breeders help Ok I need some advice...I have two females breed successfully 3 times April 11-15 (proven stud) Both have gained about 1 lb plus, swollen teats, hard, swollen vulva, one is nesting the other is releasing colostrum. Vet swears he feels at least two puppies on Trina and perhaps one in Hedy. final vet check yesterday and x-rays to be safe since they were both to whelp close if not on the same day. Get this x-rays show NOTHING! at 54 days blank, nada, nothing!!! My question to other breeders, have you ever had an x-ray this late and it show nothing? I am in Yorkie confusion, Ive never had this happen!! All the physical signs say they are!! Should I do an ultra sound? or just wait it out? Have you ever had adults go through false pregnancies? All mine did first season but never as adults, AND TWO OF THEM at the same time The lastest possible whelp date would be the 19th and that's pushing it... any imput would be greatly appreicated

| xrays No, I have never had pups not show up at 54 days on a xray..but I would watch them both very carefully. If you have the money to invest, try a sonogram to be sure. Since the vet feels pups it is very odd...but the way the xrays are taken is important...side views are not always accurate., pups can be hidden behind organs. Lay them on their backs and watch for movement, which you should see by now. One thing I find in a pregnant bitch, is a clear sticky discharge, gets heavier the last two weeks. I have never had a non pregnant female do this. Good luck.. |

| thanks pat for your reply...we did top view xrays as well because we couldnt believe our eyes incase they were up in the rib area and still nothing. He has a radiologist coming to his office today she will look at the x-rays for a second opinion...the oddest thing is the colostrum discharge!

| Gosh I wish I had some words of wisdom for you! I dont routinely Xray my yorkies when pregnant. I have had false heats but no false pregnancies. I cant imagine both yorkie girls not being pregnant, one maybe but both!! Id say the xray is wrong. It will be quite interesting to see what happens. Id probably wait it out if I could stand it, I know the testing is pricey, and if its not totally necessary I wouldnt do it........but I have a tight budget........ Sorry Im not any help. |

| Thanks Kelly for your response, if I can feel the pups I usually dont do xrays just the final prenatal check. In this case I couldnt feel any pups so I asked for the xrays. He swears he felt them two weeks ago and again yesterday, perhaps were having ghost babies!

| Rini WhisperRini could tell you with her dolper if you were close. She was always 100% accurate about how many...even my vet would ask.."how many did your friend hear"? One time he was positive it was 2 on the xray and Rini said she heard a very faint third heartbeat..she was right..When Nadine had 6, Rini heard each one and told me where they were placed...a genius in my book...fingers crossed for you..the waiting and wondering is a pain. |

| I've heard of pups not showing up on x rays even the day before whelping.. Just wait and see is my advice.. after all you can't change anything either way. Best of luck and hope we'll hear about some puppies soon.

| thank you all for your thoughts the radiologist looked at the xrays yesterday and said the same thing Now explain this (hedy and latrina) Hedy has been humping Trina non stop for the past 24 hours, she has never done this before EVER... Hedy is so persistant humping its making Trina very angry, she takes it for about 10 mintues at a time before she snaps at her, Hedy is stuck to Trinas side like glue! Doesnt look like a dominace hump I swear its a sex hump! She is putting her bottom in everyones face, I tested one of her teats again this morning and more colostrum too what the hell is going on with these girls...

| P.s Our female humped the crap out of our male when she was pregnant, I was really wondering after the x-ray showed no pups , and she humped that poor little guy till the day she went into labor, he got so used to it he would stay sleeping when she would do it , it was kinda funny he probably thought well she is going to do it anyway might as well lay here and let her go for it .. she has never done this with other pregnancies, I couldnt figure it out either But she did have 1 pup in their |

| Well in all of my years of breeding, I've never had that happen either. Sounds like a false pregnancy to me. What is your vet saying about it? |
