| Help! First Time Breeding [FO NT="Comic Sans MS"][/FONT] This is the first time breeding my 4 year old Yorkie male. What problems can I expect after the "tie"? I read to put baby oil or antibiotic ointment on his penis afterwards. Any help is appreciated. |

| Do not put anything on his penis. he will take care of it himself. You might have to help him figure everything out. You might even have to hold him on her until the tie. When they tie, make sure you are hold of them or where you can just sit down beside them and hold your girl. My girls always try to run off or lay down after the tie. I usually stand right over them and drop to the floor immediately and get hold of the girl when they tie because your male can't get away and these little gals can really do some permanent damage to them. |

| Always assit in the breeding. Holding the female in position, assist him on mounting and hitting the target, especially on a new stud. Would never put a virgin female and new stud together on a first breeding. A seasoned stud and a virgin or vice a virsa.....Make sure you hold the female during the tie as she can move and hurt the stud, and terminate his studding career. I always wash my males after a breeding and apply Panalog ointment.....tell them what a good job they did, and give them both food, water and put them down to rest. Especially the female, she needs quiet time.....

You monitor until he is completely retracted. You're also monitoring that any hair doesn't get caught into the sheath too....I'm just a bit overly cautious when breeding.....I don't leave them alone, I assist, I make sure that they are clean, comfortable and calm afterwards.

| Thanks for all the replies and advice, they tied once today and everything went fine. Now I have another question, how many times should I try them? Is once enough or does it take several times? Thanks again. |

| It only took 1 mating for my Missy. But I suppose a few times, would give you better odds, not to sure maybe Mardelin could answer this 1.

| You bred today, nothing until Thursday and only once each day. Each breeder does it different. Some on the 10th and 12th day (not a rule of thumb but, based on your females cyle). Some breed 3 times, every other day. And others breed 1 day, skip 2 and then breed again. Not several times in one day and not every day. Skipping allows the male to build up sperm potency.
