| I am going to be a grandma!!!! I went to the vet to have Maddy checked out and to see is she was going to have babies... Well the vet said he could feel 2 babies YAY! This is my first litter and I have done everything by the book until now. I don't know how to be fully prepared I know the basics but I now need your help. I waited till the second heat, had many vet checks to make sure my Tommy and Maddy were in tip top shape, ect.I am so nervous and nervous all at the same time. 1. What all do I need for my little Maddy to be happy when she gives birth? 2. What do I need for the little guys when there born. 3. Will the just come natural what if she has problems? 4. Do I need to keep Tommy away from Maddy? 5. When do I reg. the litter? 6.I think I am going to worry like crazy..... I would love to take in all you can give me and I hope so far I don't sound like a bad breeder I love my babies so much only want the best for them and I also know the should live my home until they are around 12 weeks..

1. What all do I need for my little Maddy to be happy when she gives birth? Your Maddy is not going to be happy when she give birth? She's going to be in pain? 2. What do I need for the little guys when there born. If you have a breeder friendly vet, ask him what supplies you're gonna need on hand to assist. Buy this book by Terry Schumsky 'How to buy and raise a healthy dog....plenty of stuff on whelping supplies...You can also do a google search on whelping supplies 3. Will the just come natural what if she has problems? Each female is different. Some will deliver naturally, but you will have to assist. Others may require medical assistance. Familirize yourself with the problem signs. 4. Do I need to keep Tommy away from Maddy? Once she delivers, you need to keep her and the puppies warm and in quiet part of the house. No other dogs. She'll be anxious and protective. Do everything you can to keep her calm and content. 5. When do I reg. the litter? I usually wait for 2 weeks to make sure all is well and puppies are healthy 6.I think I am going to worry like crazy.....Yes, you are, but that's normal. Another google search is Debbie Jensen. A week before she is due, begin to confine your female to the area where she will be whelping. She needs to get comfortable, as that is going to be her home until puppies are weaned. Females that are allowed to roam, will not get down to business when it comes to nursing & caring for the puppies. and you don't want her to have her puppies all over the house. Oh! begin increasing her food supply now and continue larger food supply until weaning time......no calcium supplements, that comes after puppies are born. You want her healthy and able to produce milk. I would love to take in all you can give me and I hope so far I don't sound like a bad breeder I love my babies so much only want the best for them and I also know the should live my home until they are around 12 weeks..: Not around 12 weeks, 12 weeks or older.

| www.debbiejensen.com A MUST-READ website. Will contain most everything you will need to know. If you don't already have a mentor, then I strongly suggest you seek one out, to help you, to be available all hours of the night to walk you through any problems and to encourage you. Best of luck. |

| If you thought you researched before, boy now you've really got you're work cut out for you. Tip: Vanilla ice cream is perfect during labor, glucose-for energy to push if she's getting tired. Calcium (only during and after whelping)- strengthens contractions. Don't feed puppy food during pregnancy. It has increased calcium. If it's fed to her on a spoon, her body will not make it to call on during whelping when she's going to need it. Hence, higher chances of c-section due to lack of contraction strength. Stick around, read and post and definitely research online. And Congratulations! |

There are no standard forms....you can search on google for contracts..protecting the puppy is your most important item on that contract. Making sure that who ever adopts your kids are the best homes possible...I have even gone to perspective homes and checked myself. Remember, new families are wanting to a reputable breeder and will question you, however, you still own those pups and you've got to feel good about the families....go with your gut, if it doesn't feel comfortable, trust your judgement.
