I need some help , please!!!!!!! I am about to lose the runt I think. When she was born she weighed 3.3oz. Then lost down to 3.2 next morning. Now, she only weighs 2.9. She weighed 3.0 all day yesterday. She doesn't seem sick, has no defects, palates okay. Everything. Plus I am feeding her one cc every hour of Esbilac. I make sure she gets hold of a good full teat and help her latch on. What can I do? Any ideas. They are four days old today. Thanks?

Oh no, I am sorry!! Does she cry alot? Is Frankie cleaning her and keeping up with her or is she paying little attention to her? I don't know what else to suggest since you are supplementing her and making sure she is on a teat! Maybe someone else will have some ideas I'll be praying she gets stronger and starts to thrive!

How much?? Thanks, Mardlin, how much should I give her? last night and this morning, I gave her 1-1/2cc because she is sucking it right out of the syringe. i knew she was still hungry. No, she isn't whining and crying. Mom is very loving to her. She is nice and warm. When she isn't trying to nurse, mom has her right up under her chin licking her. I am almost inclined to think it is "fading puppy". i hope not. i know Frankie has had these extra tiny ones in the past and they have done well. It's just that I am fairly new to this and want to make sure I am doing everything possible to save her.

If she's empting it, increase it to 2 cc and see how she does with that, if she takes all of that down, increase it more....when you stablize her weight, increase amounts and lengthen feeding time intervals....have you done the skin test to make sure she is hydrated? If the Esbilac isn't working you might want to switch to Just Born or Goats Milk with equal parts of water. Are you tube feeding her or bottle feeding her? Is mommy potting her? I hope it isn't fading puppy...

I took my tiny one to the vet, she'd gotten not only low in weight but not moving much and I was sure she was fading. When we got to the vets, of course she perked up lol. She weighed an ounce on their scale. she was not dehydated, her vitals looked good. The vet said she was just tiny and some tiny ones don't make it. I told him I want to learn how to tube feed. I knew this, IMO, was what was needed, as my girl would only suck for a little while and tire her weak self out. Thankful he taught me. She got through that period, gained strength and is a healthy 15 ounces at 4 1/2 weeks old. Just wanted to share how my little one made it. Warmest thoughts for the little one
