| What About table food ???? I have a question to anyone out there ? I have been told by some people not to give the dogs table food. I have been told especially ham. It could get them severly sick. I asked a vet about this and he said in moderation it is o.k. and that ham is not bad for dogs. I asked a different vet and he said absolutely no table food for the dogs. I have used chicken broth to pour on my dosg food and have given them a taste of some table food. Since I have gotten 2 different asnwers from 2 different vets. i would like to ask the yorkie family what they think.... I know most of us out there give our babies a treat once in a while. and I was told that chicken breast is good for mommies... anyone care to help me with this question????????? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | morgan gets people food every day too. in fact right now she is looking to steal the cheese out of my sandwich. some people food is toxic to dogs so you just have to know which ones are safe and which ones aren't. after you figure that out, everything safe is ok in moderation really. one problem tho, you can start to develop bad eating habits if they get too used to the people food and refuse to eat dog food, or you can get a begger

| I have had mixed dogs in the past and they always got the table scraps but Yorkies are different! They can get pancreatitis very easily so you have to be very careful of the fat content in food. Table scraps contain to much fat for yorkies. You can boil chicken breasts and use the white meat to add to their food but please do no give them table scraps. Ever. Ham has too much fat in it. So does Beef. They also love veggies, carrots and green beans. I thaw out the frozen kind and keep in refrig in a tubberware and give as snacks. These little ones are very susceptible to fat in their diet. You really do have to be careful. Good luck, Carol & Buddy |

| layla gets people food about every day. she gets a carrott to help her fibre intake (to help her anal glands) and if i have an apple she will nibble on it (so cute.. she looks like a bunny!) tonight we are having chicken so after supper she will get a piece.. i try not to give her food at the table because she will start to beg while we eat.... and she can also usually get grandma to give her a piece of cheese! we only give her food that i know is good for her.. i try not to give her anything she will choke on. after being on YT i feel i know what is good for her and what is not.. and if it is healthy and she is still intersted in her food.. she can have it |

| No table food! We had a Yorkie that got pancreatitis she recovered but it was scary and expensive. We certainly learned our lesson the hard way.

| What About Table Food? [HI, I DID A LITTLE WEB SITE LOOKING ON THIS AND THOUGHT I'D ADD WHAT I SAW TO THIS QUESTION. MOST HUMAN FOOD IS FINE IN MODERATION, AVOID SUGARY, GREASY-FATTY FOODS AS A RULE TO MUCH CAN LEAD TO PANCRETITIS. NOW I'LL LIST ONES YOU DON'T WANT AT ALL: GRAPES AND RAISINS CAN CAUSE KIDNEY FAILURE IN DOGS, A SINGLE SERVING OF RAISINS CAN KILL A DOG. ONIONS AND GARLIC AVOID CAUSES ANEMIA IF IN LARGE AMOUNTS, CHOCOLATE CAUSES SEIZURES, COMA AND DEATH. COFFEE, COFFEE GROUNDS, TEA BAGS, DRINKS WITH CAFFEINE MAY CAUSE SOME SYMPTOMS AS CHOCOLATE. MACADAMIA NUTS CAUSE WEAKNESS IN MUSCLES, TREMORS, AND PARALYSIS.TOMATOES CAN CAUSE TREMORS, AND HEART ARRHYTHMIAS. AVOID AVOCADOS CAUSE DIFFICULTY IN BREATHING. NUTMEG CAN CAUSE TEMORS, SEIZURES AND DEATH. APPLE CHERRIES PEACHES "seeds" CONTAIN CYANIDE, WHICH IS POISIOUS TO DOGS. RAW EGGS SALMONELLA POISONING. EXCESSIVE SALT CAUSES KIDNEY PROBLEMS. THAT IS WHAT I FOUND AND I HOPE YOU ALL TRY TO REMEMBER WHICH ONES ARE A TOTAL NO NO FOR YOUR YORKIE OR OTHER DOGS. A NEW MEMBER- GINGER PONTLITZ |

| My girls get a small spoonful of low fat cottage cheese, as a treat. Right now, one of my girls is a little too plump, so my vet said to cut back just a bit on the dog food and supplement with baby carrots, which she said were extremely low calorie, but will help fill her up. Anyway, she loves the carrots. My girls beg for table food, but I rarely give in. I do think that dogs need dog food to be their healthiest. JMHO. |

| I have had to resort to "cooking" for mine... I KNOW I am crazy but its the only way I can get Hope to eat at all anymore. It isnt that difficult and I know she gets all the nutrients she needs this way. She gets her Crunchy treats everyday too so I am not worried about her teeth... I just know that I have spent a FORTUNE buying every kind of dog food known to man and it just isnt worth the worry about if she is eating or not...
