Default AKC Breeder info request??

Okay, I thought if you called the AKC they can give you info on a breeder, such as how many dogs registered within the year or if they had any suspensions etc. I called and although the lady told me there was no red flags with suspensions she wouldnt give any other info. What are they allowed to tell you?

Sorry I honestly have no idea what they are and aren't allowed to tell you. Maybe someone else will know and can help you out.

I don't know the answer but your question didn't seem invasive to me.

That's a great question! It would give people a lot of information... I wonder if you can find that information out.

I agree! I didnt think my questions were invasive either . Its as good as calling their Vets office, they too will not give you any info. Even the smallest little tad bit of info, not like your asking for them to pull out peoples files and give you all their dogs health history. You believe, I called a Vet for reference once and the receptionist would just say, that yes this is a client of theirs. But would not even say if they brought yorkshire terriers to be seen at their office.
Now I see why some breeders freely give their vet numbers when there is nothing you could find out even if you called!

You also have to take into consideration that just because someone has maybe 13 dogs registered under their name it does NOT mean they still own all of them! If I have kept a puppy back for myself and decided to register the puppy individually under my name it does not mean that I did not decide later on to place the puppy into a pet home with NO AKC registration. Which means I would still have the AKC registration even though I do not own the dog anymore. Also I never give AKC papers with a dog until I have proof the dog has been altered. You can do this as long as you state in your contract that NO papers go with the dog until proof of alteration. If you have concerns with a breeder go to their home for a visit and check our how the dogs are cared for! Just because a breeder may have 13 dogs it does NOT mean that they are not well cared for! Some people can take better can of a larger amount of dogs than some people can take care of ONE!

There are alot of considerations to be made, you are right, I wouldnt be concerned for example if a person had 13 dogs registered. I would be concerned if it were double or triple this amount. Calling AKC wasnt to question how the dogs are cared for, it was to verify the info the breeder had stated regarding her small breeding practices.

I have had two dogs pass away at a younger age. Although I've marked them in my paper work as deceased, they're still registered to me with AKC.

Thank you for this info, I did not know this.

It's more of a, how many litters a year, I recall reading it here on YT that it was possible to obtain that info from akc, thats what gave me the idea to do so, I guess it was wrong.
