| AKC papers? I already have a bad feeling, but here goes... We purchased our Mia from a local pet store, she is supposed to be "American Kennel Club Registerable". The pet store paper work says that "if your puppy is registerable, you will be notified by postcard when the registration papers have arrived, usually twelve weeks." I stopped in on Monday to see if they have arrived, and talked to 2 (child) managers who told me they had until Wednesday for it to be twelve weeks!!! (I was soooooooo angry with their arrogant attitude - and I still haven't received a postcard) Anyway, is there any reason she wouldn't be registerable? And does anyone know how long it takes to get the paperwork? I paid alot of money for her, and was led to believe that she could be bred... not that I am, but I thought that I was paying for that option. I have since learned sooo much about these pet stores being fronts for puppy mills (from YT) that it literally makes me feel ill. But, I now feel like I saved our little Mia and I'm happy for that. Thanks in advance for your help

| The only reason that you wouldn't get her AKC papers is if her parents were not AKC reg.. As for the pet store I would bug them everyday till they get them for you....I'm glad you recused her from there but they will probably try to not give you papers....Stay on them!

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles pet stores are notorious for bad treatment to both humans and animals. I would go back demand to speak with the owner and tell him you want the papers of a patial refund. I've never heard of them sending you a post card if the dog is registable because they know wether they are papered or not when they buy them from the mills. i think they are blowing a lot of huff and if they won't give you the papers or a refund tell them you will turn them in and get the media involved and see what they say to that. Good lucki and keep us posted!

| Odds are that the pup is NOT an AKC registered pup. The pet stores tell everyone that their puppies are papered and can be registered, but they neglect to tell you that the registery will be something like APR , or CKC, or some other new one. The millers are all using different, or making up new ones because AKC is making it harder for them to have so many litters registered. As sad as it is, mill puppies are usually not good quality, or healthy pups. Maybe only about 1 out of 25 end up being good healthy dogs that live long happy lives. Many end up dying, or having to be put down within 2 to 5 years of age, or have severe health problems. I can attest to that because my daughter got a pet store pup and at 14 months it had to be put down because it was having seizures continously, and a friend I have had a chi for 6 years and had to have her put down because of heart, and kidney problems, after years of medical treatments. On the other hand, I also have a friend that got a healthy pup, although much larger than she was supposed to be for a yorkie. It is like playing a roulette wheel when you buy from a pet store, unfortunately, everyone does not know about where the puppies in the pet shops come from, and who can resist a cute little puppy once you hold them, or see them in the little box looking so lonely and sad. I know I couldn't, which is why I stay out of pet shops, and try to convince eveyone I know NOT to patronize any petshop that sells live puppies/kittens. |

| akc I do not like that sentence.."IF your puppy is registerable you will get a postcard"...most pet shop pups are no longer AKC..a few are, but very few. When a broker or dealer goes to the commerical breeder to pick up pups for a shop, the breeder is required at that time to have papers in hand..most being APRI/CKC/ACA,...the papers are given to the shops when the pups are delievered..that is what the commericals breeders say on their forums. IN fact the can be fined by USDA for not having papers when the brokers picks up pups. Good Luck to you... |

| if you ever actually do get a set of akc papers from them...I would be willing to bet they don't even belong to the pup you bought....so I would probably spend the energy doing what you can to educate others about not buying from pet stores.

| AKC is really good about getting registration papers out. If you register a puppy online you would receive them in the mail in less than 2 weeks. The breeder is the only one who can do this. I think legally, if you request it, a pet store has to give you the name of the breeder. Maybe you can do some research on your own. |

My furkids Donating Member | I agree with everyone's post. I would make such a ruckus that they wouldn't forget me!! If you don't get the results that you want I would DEFINATELY threaten to turn them in. Once you start stirring the pot I believe you are going to find alot of mud! I would never buy from a pet store. I don't even go in the ones that sell puppies and kittens. I just feel so bad for them that I would like to buy them all. They just look so pitiful. You never know what you are getting either. I really hope that your little pup is healthy and good luck with the paper issue.

| Missouri is one of the states that is notorious about having puppy mills. Did you get your pup from a pet store chain?

| Okay, this looks as though the breeder did register the litter. I think now I would call the breeder and ask her if maybe she can help you. Tell her where you bought the dog and say that you are trying to track down the registration papers. Tell her that the pet store promised you papers but that they have not come up with any. (Breeders have to fill out the name of the person or business that they sold the dog to.) Ask her if she can look up the paper work and see who she might have sold the puppy to originally. At least maybe this way you can figure out who has the papers. If you im me and give me your name and the name & address & phone number of the pet store where you bought the puppy from, I'll try to find the breeders phone number and call her. I'll call AKC too if I need more information. Let me know if you would like me to help. Quote:

| Well it sounds to me like you have the paperwork. You can do the registration online, but there is a code number that you will need that says you have full registration rights, and a PIN. They should be on your Registration Application I have no clue what the postcard thing was all about. The pedigree is just for your information. |
