| Breeding Question please.. Hi, Can anyone that knows tell me , should a stud yorkie tie with a female, once a day for 2-3 days or leave him with the female all day every other day for 2-3 days? Does his sperm count go down after one tie for that day? Does a young stud 15 months have as full a sperm count as an older male? Dian Sugar Muffy BuckWheat |

| I would say that 15 month stud would have a good sperm count. You can have him tested also. Now you have your progesterone tests and all to tell the exact time that mom is most fertile. I have nothing against that, but I'm too old fashioned. I let nature do it. I breed on the first day she will stand for him. If I get a tie, I seperate for 24 hours and go at it again. I usually don't allow them to tie more than 3 times. (although i have done 4, and my last litter was one tie, un-proven stud and produced 6 pups) You don't want to space your ties too far apart or you will have babies that may not be on the same pace of development. forgot to add, yes his count will need to build up between ties to get the best results. |

| My female that is 5 and half pounds I bred her her once a day for two days..so she was only with the stud twice. My female that is 6 pounds I bred her 3 times once a day for 3 days. I wouldn't recommed letting them breed more than 3 times but that is my preference. I also recommend making sure you are there to witness each breeding. I never leave them alone..I am always there to assist if they need to and to keep them calm after they have tied. YOu need to write down the day of each tie. It's important to keep accurate records..but you may already know all of that lol..sorry i got carried away here lol

VERY good point Never leave them alone to "do their thing". The female can cause damage to the male if so. And lots of discomfort to the female. I wish we could go back and edit these posts longer than we can. I always think of things way after I've posted....

| Yorkiemom..I too always think of things after lol so then sometimes i end up posting a hundred posts that could of been wrapped up in one lol.. I defenitely beleive in supervising..I seen a breeding of yorkies one time (they weren't mine I just got to be there) and the lady didn't assist. The male was on the females back literally riding around on her back hanging on for dear life crying and she was crying. I finally stepped in and helped them. I couldn't beleive the breeder didn't. If there had been no pain involved it would of looked funny but there was pain and I felt soo bad for them both..

What day do you put a male with a female on the first day she accepts him? Does that mean she is ovulating? Thanks Dian

| All females are different but the majority are ready around day 12. There are tests you can buy but alot of times an experience stud will let you know when it's time..he won't even bother her til she's ready. Some will say even as early as day 10 from the first sign of heat. She will stand for him when she is ready as well. Actually she will stand for anything when she is ready. lol..my females when they were ready would walk up to me and turn their little behinds towards my leg lol..

| I had a mentor for the first time I was going to breed (I lost my male and lost interest it was hard) but of course i've since changed my heart and therefore my mind..anyway I have read and read and read and I still have to come on here to ask a thousand and one questions. I have to say I've learned more from here than I've learned anywhere. The bad thing about reading is you never know if what you are reading is true and or helpful. At least on here you can get advice from people that are currently breeding and you get answers immediately. If I had my choice between a mentor and here I would choose here just for the simple fact that there is ALWAYS someone on hand here to help you at all times as to where a mentor has her own life and her own dogs and may not always be able to be there..But if I had my total choice I would say a mentor and here lol..i got a little too winded here...hehe

| always supervise.... Yes... I just bred my girl to a prescreened stud. She was bred with him twice. So when she came home with me..... my stud BeeBee was trying his hardest to get to her. I kept her with me all the time and she slept with me. However, one sleepy morning... I went down and I put my MaeMae on the floor to do her business.... and I looked away for 10 seconds... and there .... WAHT DO MY EYES SEE...... BeeBee was tied with my MaeMae.... UGHHHHHH So I am very nervous about this coming litter. She is due April 18th and I am soooooo worried. I tried so hard to be careful and it just takes one second. |
