| Wow 7, that is a lot of puppies. How big was mom before pregnancy? Do you have many questions? Have you done your homework and researched whelping? Do you know what dangers to watch for? Are you prepared to supplement if you need to? Do you have all the necessary supplies on hand and ready? I wish you luck. keep us posted on the progress? And Welcome to YT |

Senior Yorkie Talker | This is my first along with hers. She was orginally a big yorkie weighing 15lbs. I have read so many sites and spoke with people who have breed before. Dont believe I will feel relieved until it is over. I am very nervous because of Gezell being a little over weight. I have most of the necessary supplies. I still have to get the whelping box and a few things. Any advice is welcome. My vet suggested a site called whelpwise.com have you heard of it? It is a monitor you put on the female that helps them and yourself step by step with birth. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I have a 3yr old teacup, Cosmo, who is sick. His throat collapsed and is unable to have surgerybecause it collapsed too close to his heart. I wanted my female to have a litter for a couple of years but was unable to find a male yorkie since Cosmo is unable to breed. My sister in-law has a well breed Min-Pin. That is the father. I was told Gezell had a fertility problem a year ago and was unable to breed her. the Vet was wrong. I didnt expect 7 puppies.. but I pray all goes well. |

First of all there are no teacup dogs of any breed. There is no teacup category, yorkies are in the toy group and they are all in the same group no matter, what the size.

DO NOT give calcium, supplement while she is pregnant, you can give them to her after she whelps. How much did she weigh before she was bred.? Please go to this site and learn all you can to prepare yourself for the whelping. Dog Breeding and Canine Reproduction by Debbie Jensen. Dog Breeding and Whelping guide for dog breeders.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Well second of all I am just going by what my Vet says and other people. From what I read when you look for a yorkie it says teacup and toys available. It only tells you the size the pup will be, so whats the harm? |

| Is this her first litter? If so, her age adds a complication. Most breeders will not breed a girl for the first time after 3 years. The reasons being that the pelvic bones have set and won't have the spring to them that allows the pups to pass through the birth canal. Also, the uterus tends to thicken with each heat cycle when she isn't bred and will lose elasticity.

| elenita - the term "teacup" is just a marketing ploy. It's a way that a lot of back yard breeders and puppy mills will make more money - if it's a "teacup", they will charge more for it. It's saying nothing other than they used the smaller, and generally less healthy dogs for breeding. So you intentionally bred your yorkie with a min pin?

There is not a "teacup" size-this is just a marketing ploy, and by knowing this, you will just be better educated about yorkies, than "other" people. Good luck to your little girl and all those pups. (Joey and Tank's mom - looks like we posted almost the same thing at the same time. LOL) Last edited by Sweetlips6; 04-23-2010 at 07:55 PM.
