| Eating question I have had many litters of puppies before so I am not a newbie. My question today is has anyone ever had a 3 week old puppy that tries to eat hard puppy food. I have not let him have any but was curious if anyone else has seen this. He is getting plenty of mothers milk and gaining weight everyday. Every time mom goes out for a potty break he gets into her bowl and tries to eat the kibble. Do you think I should give him some kibble (powered) with goats milk or wait until he is older.

| I give them Royal Canin, BABY, if they are really determined, because it breaks very easily, even if they don't have teeth. Happens here, often. I don't worry about it, some are more determined, or more hungry than others

| I always wean my pups on finely ground up puppy food. I usually put a bowl down as soon as they are walking, usually around 3 1/2 weeks. I will also put down a bowl of water. I like using the small double sided bowls they sell in the pet department at Wal-mart. I put the ground up food in both sides of the bowl and a separate bowl for the water. As they get older I don't grind the food as fine. I use a blender to grind the food. |

YT 500 Club Member | I had a little girl born once who just wanted to try everthing way befors any of her siblings or any other pup I bred, she tried eating her moms food at that age but mom told her no , didn't give up trying though. I reasoned mom new best so held off until they were all a little older. |

Thanks for all of the responses everyone. I think we will try some blended up kibble tonight for dinner.
