Question for breeders on puppies growth I have a question for any of you that are breeders. We have two new babies (25 days old) We had three at first, but the first little girl who was the biggest and was doing good went to heaven after her tail docking. I was sick and did not pay attention to them that day. I believe she stopped nursing because of the pain and went hypoglycemic. Anyway, the other two - a boy who weighed 4 oz at birth and a girl who weighed 3.9 oz at birth - are doing fine. My question is do they stop growing for a while? The little boy went from 4 oz to 22 oz on 1/28. He has been at that weight since then (today is the 2nd) and the little girl went from the 3.9 oz to 16.5 and had stayed there for the same amount of time. They are doing good - crawling around and not whining at all. I give them each a taste of nutrical morning & night and just today warmed up some canned Nutro puppy food to see what they would do. The boy still likes his titty but the little girl licked at it a little. I am probably worrying for nothing but thought I would ask you guys. Thanks for any help.

They should still be nursing from their mother. I would be careful about using nutrical on 3 week old pups. It can cause diarrhea or cause a sugar high then low. If they are nursing and bright, alert, active I wouldn't worry to much about no weight gain for a few days. If they drop weight, are lethargic, or don't nurse contact your vet.

Good advice...they can start to level off, but should continue a steady weekly growth. No Nutra-Cal so young...if they are nursing, crawling and not crying, they should be fine...you can have a stool sample run to =cehck for worms at this age. Best wishes

Thank you so much. The reason I gave them any Nutrical was that when I got it at the vet (for the mom as she was so skinny after giving birth), the tech said I could give it to them also. They only got about half a pearl size (or less) I was just so afraid of them getting hypoglycemic, but I'll stop giving it to them.

Just an update. The little girl had blood in her pee so off they all went to the vet. Looks like mama is getting less milk and their pee was very concentrated and she got a UI. Mom got meds to up her milk, babies got amoxil and supplemental milk. Now two babies with very fat tummies. After the boy got the extra milk (and fluids at the vet) he is scarfing down the puppy food - wel, licking the heck out of it anyway.
