| Question regarding new and first time mom... My Puddin had her babies this morning starting at 5 am. This is our first and LAST as she will be spayed as soon as Vet says ok. I have noticed that Mom is panting what seems like alot to me but maybe normal. I know there are tons of knowledable breeders here that can answer that for me. My husband and I have been a nervous wreck since last night. Yes, this was very much an accidental breeding and I am in no way cut out for this and I admire the ones that can. Thanks for any help you have to offer. Sonya Last edited by sallen38; 09-08-2008 at 02:22 PM. |

| She'll pant alot for the next few days. Her uterus is still contracting to shut itself down. She'll be very hesitant to leave her pups so you might want to plan a breakfast in bed, maybe 2 or 3 for her. I give my gals esbilac and egg, hand feed them baked chicken, and bring the water to them. Make sure she gets out to potty occasionally. I had one that laid in her whelping box so long that she could hardly walk when I finally insisted that she take a break. Make sure that no one disturbs the pups while she is gone or she won't trust you to leave her nest again. When you want to handle the pups make sure that you do it right there where she can supervise and not behind her back. Take her temperature at least daily to make sure that she has no fever. Check her vulva, anus, and teats to make sure that nothing is red or swollen and that there are no blockages. Cheese helps if she gets a bit of diarhea. Enjoy your litter and good luck with your gal.

| Thanks so much for the information. It is greatly appreciated! I boiled some chicken and fed her and also gave her some cottage cheese. We will do whatever is necessary to make sure she is comfortable. This has been experience that I will never forget! I don't know who has been worse, my husband or I, probably him as this is "his baby girl". Hopefully, everything will go well. I have done tons of research and reading since we found out she was expecting. Thanks again, Sonya |
