| Curiosity questions If a male only has one testicle, can he still breed? If so, will he produce puppies all of the same sex? I know it is a fault but I am curious. When the fontanel doesn't close properly, when it should, would that be considered a genetic fault? |

| A male with an undescended testicle shouldn't be bred. It is hereditary. An open fontanel is also not something you want to pass on.

| questions Yes...A male can breed with one testicle..but he should not be bred if he has one testicle..he will produce more males with one testicle (not all males pups, but they will carry the gene) and females who carry the recessive gene..a no win situation. No, it is not true he will produce all of one sex if he has one testicle. Each testicle contains sperm of both sexes...if these things were so simple, a breeder could have one testicle removed and get only one sexed puppies.. Open fontental can be genetic...the size of the opening can be minor to serious..and I have rarely seem one in a Yorkie over 4 pounds..not that it can not occur, but more likely in the smaller Yorkies. It is not a death sentence or health concern as many vets say...I had a 3 pounder live for 14 yrs with a small one..it is all how big it is..good luck |

Thank you, Pat. I just wondered if a male with only one testicle could produce puppies at all or if it would mean he was sterile. LOL I love your 2nd paragraph. It never even occurred to me to think that way. I was wondering about the fontanel because I have a little girl who had one open for about a year and a half before it was finally gone. I thought that when they didn't close when they should that the fontanel would never close. | |
