| temperature ok maybe i'm not reading right or maybe i'm just not getting it or seeing it but i have a question. what does it mean if the temperature is 99.7 yesterday and 99.1 today and they didn't give me a due date and the vet said about 3 weeks till puppies on tuesday???? i never saw a tie. so i couldn't say when they conceived. i don't want to leave and find puppies. or go to sleep and wake up to puppies... i don't sleep hard but my door is usually closed cause i don't want to wake up to puppies under my bed. (under my bed is the only place i have heard her digging) she doesn't like her whelping box and won't stay in there. should i confine her to one area? i just don't know when to start looking for labor signs. she goes back to the vet on tuesday.(for another x-ray) he wasn't really sure of how far a long she was. at first he said like 1 to 2 weeks just by looking at her. (and how good the puppies looked in the ultrasound) then he took and x-ray and couldn't see anything.. i know it won't be today but i just wish i had a date so i could look for it. ok i've gone to temperature to a date. i'm all over the place. sorry. agh! i'm so confused.

| it is very confusing and scary if you didn't do your homework prior to breeding her. when was she in her 2nd week of her heat?

| When a bitch is getting ready to whelp the temperature will usually drop to around 99 degrees and stay there for 12 to 24 hours before whelping. If you take the temp in the morning and it is 99.1 and then in the afternoon it is back up to 100.1 then most likely the bitch is not ready to have puppies. The temperature is just a guide line but not a sure thing because I have had bitches deliver when there temp was 100 degrees. Can you feel puppies moving when you hold your hands on her belly? Usually about a week before they are due you can start feeling light movement and the closer to term they get the more active the puppies are. I do not do anything to upset or stress out my females when it is close to their due date. If your bitch is used to free roam then in my opinion you just need to watch her like a hawk. Usually when they are ready to start whelping they will start panting and nesting, but I know some bitches will start this behavior a couple days before actually delivery. Usually, right before delivery the bitch will have several bowl movements and sometime they start vomiting. |

i have done research... if i didn't then i wouldn't know what questions to be asking... what is unplanned is the pregnancy. so i cannot answer that question cause i do not know when she even went into heat.

thank you for this!!! i'll check her temperature again tonight. she doesn't seem restless or anything. just sleeping a lot and following me around a lot. i thinks its just me. i just didn't like the temperature being low so soon. and i was wondering if it was normal. i can feel faint movement and she has the thick discahgre coming from her vulva. i know the first stage and shes not doing any of that thats why i asked about the temperature... so i guess what i really need to know is if its normal for the temperature to drop if she has 2 to 3 weeks left?

"the were unsupervised Jan 12th and 13th but i didn't notice she was in heat till the 18th. after i separated them i noticed that she had been sleeping a lot more and i looked at her belly and i could see no difference than any other time. i looked yesterday and she seemed fat." Based on that information then her possible due day would be March 12. If you are just feeling faint movement then I would guess you have at least 1 week to go or longer. Yes, the temperature can go up and down. The main thing to keep and eye on is her discharge, as long as it is clear and not brown or green then everything is usually fine. | |

| by your other post, you are at day 42. normally the temp isn't taken until 5 days prior to whelping. also, the leaking of fluid, what did the vet say about this? this is very confusing to me?????? if she is at day 42, you still have 21 days to go. does she have a belly yet?

| When did you see the vet? You said he did an ultrasound and an xray? But the xray did not show anything. I am not sure I am reading that right. If I am than she was probably not even 45 days along. Usually you cannot see the sceletons on xray until after 45 days along. I would say that as soon as you really feel them moving around you go then and get an xray. That should give you a better idea of how many there are. When did you first notice she was in heat and what did her discharge look like then? I would agree with several others and say you probably have a few weeks left. My girls usually stop eating 24 hours or so prior to delivery also. As far as the discharge one of my girls has a sticky discharge with her pregnancy and as long as there is no odor or color than it is probably normal. Just keep her clean so she does not get an infection. Best of luck to you! |

| see now you know how i feel!!! i just don't think things add up! thats why i started taking her temperature. maybe i'm just being paranoid. the vet said that the discharge meant it would be soon. but the x-ray didn't show anything and he said that the bones had not calcified. so not as pregnant as i'm thinking??? maybe its just because she was small before and now shes a rolly poly and i'm not used to it. she just looks so uncomfortable and she whines a lot. and she always wants me to rub her belly. maybe i'm just feeling sorry for her that i wasn't more careful.
