| 1st Heat Cycle - Very Quiet & Sad Stormy started her heat cycle this week. she has been very sad looking & just wants to sleep for about 4 days now. 1st sign of blood was today. when she woke up she didn't want to go outside to potty - just sat on me shivering - but she wasn't cold. Stormy normally loves to go outside & is usually the 1st out the door! She has been sleeping on us all day today - Lexi did that too - But Stormy is so little I just worry about her. she weights 3lbs 10 oz & is 9 1/2 mths old I gave her some Nutrical earlier & she did eat a little bit of her kibble. She just looks so sad - i don't remember my other 2 girls being so sad while on their cycle. Is their Anything else i should be doing for her???

| Give her some extra lovin'. She probably feels a bit puny. Hugs and kisses and maybe a nice warm compress on her sweet little belly. |

| I agree. Why not just spay her before her next heat? Lisatodd, I've been meaning to tell you that the Yorkie in your avatar is so adorable.

Even though she's already had one heat cycle, you can still get important health benefits by spaying her before her second heat: In dogs, a female spayed before her first heat will have a near-zero chance of developing mammary cancer. After the first heat, this incidence climbs to 7 percent, and after the second heat, the risk is 25 percent. If your pet has already gone through one or more heats, we still recommend spaying. Spaying can help shrink mammary cysts and prevents pyometra. http://www.cvm.umn.edu/vmc/forclient...rbenefits.html | |
