| I just signed a pettition to stop puppy mills Hi all... The ASCPA has a great bill in action to stop puppy mills. I was soooo happy to see one of the "pet stores" (that sell puppies and kitties) that I have to drive by on occasion is on there list to close them down....yeah I hope you all don't mind if I post the link.....it is a very interesting article and petition. I also donate every year to the Humane Society and the ASCPA I love them for the great work they do. Puppy Mill Bill Cracks Down on Online Dog Sales Thursday, February 28, 2013 - 2:30pm Great news! This week members of Congress reintroduced legislation to establish greater federal oversight of puppy mills, and online dog sales. The Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety (PUPS) Act would require commercial breeders who sell their puppies directly to the public, sight unseen, including via the web, to be licensed and inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Currently, only breeders who sell dogs to pet stores or to puppy brokers a... http://blog.aspca.org/content/puppy-...ll-cracks-down Hope you can get some info out of this...contact me if this is not getting you where you want. I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | You're link isn't working correctly, I hope this one works: Puppy Mill Bill Cracks Down on Online Dog Sales | ASPCA Blog. I'm so happy this bill might actually pass, I have been interested in it for a long time. I'm afraid even good breeders here have been fighting it. I think it's because commercial breeders do huge mailings out to anyone who's a member of the AKC and they pose as small breeders and warn others not to support the new bill and how it will hurt the small breeder. It’s all lies, but of course with the current climate, breeders don’t know who to believe. They in turn pass the news along and it's really hard to educate when people feel threatened. Let me first explain that we don’t currently have ANY laws that cover breeders who sell directly to public. Only those breeders who sell to pet stores have to be inspected, breeders who sell directly to public don’t need inspections because it was thought the “public” would monitor them However, now that breeders can sell hundreds of dogs over the internet directly to public, they have some of the worst puppy mills out there. No oversight at all, but this law will require breeders who sell over 50 dogs a year over the internet (or to pet stores) to have a license. I hope everyone supports this bill. This will not affect the small breeder! If you sell 50 dogs a year, you aren't a small breeder!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | In case people can't open the link, here's the article taken from this page: Puppy Mill Bill Cracks Down on Online Dog Sales | ASPCA Blog Great news! This week members of Congress reintroduced legislation to establish greater federal oversight of puppy mills and online dog sales. The Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety (PUPS) Act would require commercial breeders who sell their puppies directly to the public, sight unseen, including via the web, to be licensed and inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Currently, only breeders who sell dogs to pet stores or to puppy brokers are subject to federal oversight. Many puppies sold online come from puppy mills and are commonly bred in unsanitary, overcrowded and often cruel conditions without sufficient veterinary care, food, water or socialization. While facilities that breed puppies for commercial resale through pet stores are required to be licensed and inspected, breeders who sell directly to consumers, via the Internet, newspaper classifieds or other outlets, are exempt from any federal oversight. “As the ASPCA has seen firsthand, the photos of happy, healthy puppies posted on a breeder’s website often grossly misrepresent what conditions are really like for these puppies and their parents,” says Nancy Perry, Senior Vice President of ASPCA Government Relations. “Puppy mills are able to completely evade federal oversight by taking advantage of a pre-Internet loophole in current law, but the PUPS Act would change that.” As mentioned in USA Today, the PUPS Act will require that any breeder who sells more than 50 dogs each year to pet stores or online must meet federal standards. “The current loophole has allowed too many dog breeders to get away with abusive behavior for far too long,” adds Cori Menkin, Senior Director of the ASPCA’s Puppy Mill Campaign. “We encourage Congress and the USDA to take meaningful steps to protect dogs in commercial breeding facilities.” To learn more about the ASPCA’s efforts to eradicate puppy mills, and how you can help, please visit www.nopetstorepuppies.com.

| When will things "really" change for these poor defenseless animals. I'm firmly against anyone being able to breed and sell dogs on a large scale, NOT to give them a license to do so. I feel if your showing dogs, then you should not have more than 4 litters a year, and if your not showing them, then you should not have more than one litter a year. We have tens of thousands of dogs out there living in horrible conditions, on the streets, in back yards and in shelters and foster homes, desperately needing homes, and we don't need to add to this problem. Get some new laws on the books, and be an advocate for these disadvantage little souls........be their voice and write to your congressman, your governor and picket pet shops that sell dogs.
