$20 is the guideline, but what's realistic I think I may fall into the overboard category. I re-read the rules and saw that $20 is the guideline. Is this really what people usually spend? I just wanted to ask because I have already gone over $40 and am not even close to done shopping yet. I don't want to go SO overboard that my secret buddy feels bad about what "he or she" got "his or her" secret buddy. I know I would feel bad if I stuck to the $20 budget and got a box worth significantly more. What do you guys think? What do people REALLY spend on this usually? |
you know Ive never done it, but it appears to me everyone goes over........... |
Depends I went as much as 70 before least is about 50 don't stress over it though I have loved every gift we have ever got! |
I'm working through the 30s right now and am not done!but I look at this way you are making someone elses day! |
Don't stress it! It's for the love of the puppy! We do what makes us happy. It is not very likely the yorkie you have will have you. |
Yup that's about what I thought. My goal is about $50 but I ALWAYS go over what I say I'm going to. Tucky & I are just having sooo much fun shopping. We even had to take our stroller with us so we could use the basket it has under it to carry all the bags as we went from store to store, and we need to take another trip tomorrow too :) I'm so excited that we are getting to do this. We just missed the last one. I have a feeling Tucky & I will be GE participants for life now :D |
We're like going over $100 right now.... not to make anyone feel bad. But this is our first GE and Evie just wants to make it a very special one! She's enjoying shopping and picking out stuff for her buddy. She's a shopaholic :D |
Lets just put it this way...I sat this GE out, not because I didnt enjoy the first one (we LOVED it) but because I spent wayyyyyyy over 20 and it wasnt in my budget this time around. Its so much fun shopping for someone else's baby isnt it! I was only in 1 GE so I dont want her mom to see what I spent because it may seem like im saying it so she could know :p But I dont think many stay within the 20.00 budget. I know that everyone who participates doesnt care what you spend...alittle or alot...we are just grateful and happy! |
To be honest I have no idea what I usually spend, but I do go over the $20. What I try to do is buy things when they are on sale (toys, clothes, fabric, etc). Then put them away. When GE comes around I use some of the things I've found on sale, make some homemade treats, and send some store bought ones too, and usually use some of my fabric stash to sew something. So really I have no idea what I spend, but it is usually way over the $20 guideline... i just love spoiling someone elses furbaby. |
Well $20 doesn't go very far does it  -- but I would be perfectly happy with a box of $20 goodies. Plus, I know some people can stretch that $20 really far with great sales, etc. It's just too much fun shopping! :p:cool: |
I would say that first off, I would want my buddy to just enjoy themselves and not stress. If all they have is $20 to spend, I am totally fine with that and if someone wants to go overboard I think that's ok too but certainly not expected. |

OhmahGosh, can you guys tell I'm an obsessive shopaholic! |
Haha! Fantastic! I totally agree with everything you guys are saying. I just wanted to make sure I was doing this right cause it's my first GE and I already got my hint thread deleated cause I gave an inappropriate hint. I just really want to follow the rules and do what I am supposed to do because I would love to do the GE for many more times in the future. Tucky and I are just having so much fun! This is such a great idea. I really just want to know who came up with the GE so I can give that person a big kiss :kiss3: Quote:

Its ok, its our first time too and we are just super duper excited! All we want is to see pictures/videos of the little furbutt opening their present and enjoying it! That's all that matters! |
I always go over.....I just love giving presents and seeing my buddy so happy when they open their gift. If I go to different stores, I always forget what I got at the store before and that is how I go wayyy over....hehe. |
i always go over...$20 doesn't go very far...eheh...but we are happy will whatever we get... |
 Oh no......am I supposed to keep track???? LOL:D Kidding. I know the least limit is $20, and I truely don't keep a detailed tracking of how much I spend, but I know I'm normally probably closer to the $40-$50+ range. I keep trying to stop, but then I find another little bargain........and another......and, oh, look at this!......and, this is sooo cute......I could go on and on. Just have fun..........I know I do! |
I think it is so much fun just watching these threads.. I missed it again..darn I was going to be traveling home from florida and was so afraid to give it a shot this time..but I am already stock piling.. if I see something I like I am getting it and putting it away..lol i just so enjoy watching the dogs with their parcels..anne |
To be honest, I don't keep track. $20 goes in a heartbeat. I just do what I feel I can and what feels right. |
I know I go over but just not sure how much.... but I agree, Hope would be happy with any gift she gets... we just enjoy buying gifts for others! d |
It would be impossible for me to spend a mere $20. I go way overboard and enjoy every minute of it. It's all about my buddy! :) |

I agree with you. I don't think its about competition but the constant love of spoiling this breed. As for me, every time I know I'm heading to my aunt's house I always have something for Noogie (Squeekie's big brother). Even at my local Starbucks, I see this little old lady every day with her yorkie sipping her coffee outside and her yorkie is always dressed up with the same coat. :( Gosh I felt so bad, so one day I gave them a new sweater. She was so delighted! It felt so good to have brighten up her day. :D |

This is our second (Yorkie Talk) Gift exchange. I do go over the limit but with the economy and everything that everyone has going on I would be more than happy with someone sticking to the $20 guideline. It's supposed to be fun and no one needs to be burdened these days especially. I also go with what I like, and when I'm gifting someone I prefer quality over quantity so it may not be a big huge box but my gift is thought out, and comes from the heart. |

I agree with you too  |
we have only done 1 other GE before and we went over. After I packed up the goody box I added everything up and we were in the 5x's the minimum limit range, lol! But my goodness did we have a blast spending it ;) The $20 limit is absolutely fine with me though. What counts is that the gifts come from the heart and my babies and I will enjoy anything and everything we receive ;) Remember to just have fun! |
Bubba did the last GE and that was our first experience - frankly it's just the excitement of getting something in the mail that someone else picked out ;) -- it's not about how much they spent. But it's so fun to see what someone else has in their area of the country and what they can find. So a $20 goodie box would be so much fun! We will be thrilled with the experience regardless of what we uncover. It's not tit for tat. I don't want this to be a competition - I can only do so much and I recognize that so many others can only do so much. This is for fun and the love our sweet furbabies :aimeeyork:animal-pa |
