If by base stitch, you mean basting stitch, then yes.

I always snipped a small V here and there towards the seams in curves. Been long time since I have made anything but found it relaxing and enjoyable.

Lol...I also remember home ec in jr high school! I now teach home ec in middle school. I Hate teaching sewing though, it is hard with 30 or so children and each one needs one on one direction/help/attention. Today we don't make clothes we make pillows and such....

All the lessons given for the cures are good.
You have to clip...it's a physic rule-- or use a serger you won't have to.
Also I gather my seams before sewing sleeves in...that helps with easing.

I learned everything I know from my Home Ec teacher in High School and my mother. I should have just gone back to the basics and I would of had it figured out. I'm just glad that there were so many people who came to my rescue. What would I do without you all !
