what type of clips do you use? i bought some from the baby section at walmart. PetSmart's were soooo expensive. lol also, this may be a dumb question, but what's a top knot?

It's the ponytail on top of the head.

You could cut the bands out to avoid pulling the hair out. Or use latex bands, they don't pull hair. Or tiny terry cloth type ones at Walmart. I use the claw clips, they're quick to put in, but you have to watch them so they don't eat them. But it helps to get them used to having a topknot.
