My First Attempt at Knitting a Yorkie Sweater! Lol! 3 Attachment(s) This is messed up and I was going to quit but I decided to (almost) finish it mainly for practice. Just for fun, I'll let you all have a go at finding all my mistakes! Two good things though... It does fit Sapphire and keeps her warm... I didn't have a pattern at the time (I have several now, lol) and I haven't knitted anything for over 30 years! (and wasn't good at it then either, Ha). Also, this was mostly done in the Continental method which I love, but am just learning to do. I originally learned to knit with the English method. Just thought I'd post this for anyone wishing to learn a craft... don't be afraid to try something new. I bought two kits at WalMart... How to Knit and How to Crochet, they come with knitting needles and a crochet hook, respectively, and a booklet with instructions (even for lefties!), I bought some yarn, then watched a few You Tube videos and had a go at it! good job! |
I think it's pretty great - especially since you didn't have a pattern! I would show you the sweater I knit for my pup..... But I didn't and couldn't! Haha! :D |
I don't know how it looks on, but it looks like a great job to me:thumbup::D |
You should be proud of yourself. great job ! |
Wow, that is great I would love to learn to knit, I just learned to crochet last year, I can sew but knit is still a no go for me... LOL congratulations.. hugs, |
Your sweater looks great! I need to teach myself how to do that too! I'm adding up how much money I'll save in my head right now... |
2 Attachment(s) Oh my! You all are way too kind! Okay, minus the dropped stitches and all the ends I still need to weave in, lol: Attachment 379274 Attachment 379275 I think I'll try using a pattern next time, lol! But Thanks for all the compliments! Sapphire hates to have her picture taken so I'll try to get one of Peek A Boo with her sweater on him! |
for the first time its a great job!! |
show off! Great job! |

Great work! Such neat stitches! I wing it when I knit. I've never figured out how to follow a pattern. The only way I'm able to knit something for ZoE is because she's right there with me & I keep holding it up against her. And I don't think I've ever knitted any two things exactly the same way. I keep saying I really need to write down what I do....but then never do. :p You have me curious with the English & Continental comment. Is it the way you hold your needles & wrap or pull yarn? My Grandma is German, and she taught me to knit as a young child, but my Mum also taught me too. I never realized it wasn't the same way, until my Mum will look at one of my latest projects for ZoE and she'll say things like, "oh, there you did a few rows like your Grandma"...she says she can tell my the slant of the stitch. Probaby explains why sometimes my creations don't look as neat as they should. |
Thank you! The English method: Hold the yarn in the right hand and wrap the needle to make a stitch. The Continental method: Hold the yarn in the left hand and manuver it as close as possible to the back of your work. When you stick the needle into the stitch, you scoop the yarn and pull it through. |
Yes! Those are exactly the two ways I do it. My Grandma does continental. Her stitches are so incredibly neat & even in tension. Now I'm curious if it's just because she's such as good knitter with years of practice or if the style of knitting itself produces a neater product. |
