Thought I had a problem, but she's fine
 

Just got back from the vet...all is well. Earlier this morning I noticed that the two nipple areas closest to Lexie's front legs felt quite different than all of the others.:questione Not hard as rocks, but hard, or full. Called the vet, took her in. The vet said her temp was fine and the the fullness was due to them not being used like the other teats were. So far as I can see, those top two nipples are so small, there's not much for the pups to latch onto. She told me to apply a cool/cold compress to those two periodically, which should help stop the milk supply to them so that an infection wouldn't start up. Other than that, she told me that her other nipples had plenty of milk supply to them & mom and puppies look good. We've got an appointment for the tails and dew claws tomorrow. I was hoping that as long as we were there today, they could have done it then, but they had to many other appointments today. Oh, and I may have another prospective buyer...one of the office staff was inquiring if we were selling the pups and what the price was. We're not sure what our price will be yet, but I think we better decide because already, "inquiring minds want to know". Anyway, just thought I'd keep you all updated with the latest....

Got back from the vet about an hour ago; the puppies now have short little tails. I didn't get a good look at them yet; I wanted to let them rest with mom for awhile after that ordeal. When I first glanced at them, I thought,Aghhhh:eek: , they cut them to short, but then noticed that the pups had them held close to their little bottoms, so it was hard to see how much was there. I'm sure they are fine. They were whimpering like crazy while I was paying at the counter (had my sister with me to help with mom and the pups). The bill was $41.50 for all four (tail & dew claws) Looks like they charge $26.50 for 1 and $5.00 each for the other 3. Not bad!:)

Ouch!!! I'm glad everything went okay for the babies..and that is not a bad price at all for 4. I look forward to new pics...how long do you have to leave the bandages on for? The whimpering would probably get to me..I bet you want to pick each one of them up and give them some TLC!!:)

....no bandages. Just one little stitch from what I was told and to try and keep mom from licking the tail too much. Kind of hard when she's licking in that area anyway to pee & poop them. Completely healed in about 5 days; I don't forsee any problems. I just checked on the puppies and the tail length looks okay to me. It's funny how when they nurse, their little tails kind of stick up in they air...what's left of them anyway. LOL Very cute! I'll have to try and get a picture of that sometime.

When I got the bill for Daisy's spay I was in Shock with how cheap it was.:)

......well, here's Spooks' first belly picture! There he was, just got done nursing, moved away, rolled over, and "Ahhhhhhhh!" What a chub! (He and Candy are both that way)

Rose thank you for those Pictures. They are Great :) Bre says There are So aborable and she loves little Spook. He Is so Chubby and Loves that belly picture.

LOL...Rose, that is the cutest, funniest picture yet...I think he's gonna be the class clown of the bunch.....And he looks really healthy, and happy!!!!:) Have you weighed them again? Keep em coming...too cute!

I just finished posting my first nursery pics...I first had to spend this morning catching up on sleep and doing a little work(& I mean little)hehehe!

You like that belly picture...here's two more. 1st one is Casper, 2nd is Halle. I still need to catch Candy in that position. LOL Yes, they are all gaining weight well. I asked if they could weigh them at the vets' yesterday (which they did), but how they came up with weights over 1 lb already I'll never know. I weighed them again when I got home...the two chubs Spook and Candy each weighed 10 oz (give or take a fraction of an ounce or so) and the others Casper & Halle were right around 8.5 oz. So they've all gained between 3-4 oz. Lexie's eating well to keep up her strength to feed them well; I too have found myself hand-feeding her sometimes. Don't know why. This is sooooo much fun!:D
I won't tell, I mean, come on, what's more important than that little puppy and her mama? LOL

Oh Rose they are adorable. Isn't it amazing how fast they grow. Next week at this time we will be talking about eyes opening......aawwww. One of Lexie's little boys is going to his forever home on Sunday....I know I will cry. I warn new parents about how I will miss them and they are happy tears!! Keep the pic coming, it helps!!

Here we go...more pictures. These first four are the pups with their weights (as best I can get them) at 1 week of age. They have all doubled their birth weights and I can't believe how strong they are getting about pulling themselves around the box. I had Casper in my hands earlier and he surprised me at the strength I felt when he tried to crawl right out of my hands! I am amazed! QUESTION: In looking at the growth chart, weight gain slows down after this first week.....how/why is that. Seeing as how Lexie is more comfortable leaving them and stretching her legs more often now, my guess is because she doesn't nurse them as often? Or what?

Finally caught Candy showing her belly, then there's Mama Lexie with Candy (I thought it looked sweet), next is Lexie nursing the pups yesterday (her actual due date), and for good measure I threw in one of my Lucky, ready to cheer on the Red Sox last night with my hubby (a die-hard Red Sox fan).
