Lexie's Puppies Are Here!
 

What a day; a mixture of surprise, excitement, a little tension, and finally happy satisfaction that the babies are here and all are well.1:aimeeyork 2:aimeeyork 3:aimeeyork 4:aimeeyork , seemingly health puppies born exactly one week before they were expected. Two boys, two girls; and as tiny as they look they weigh 5oz and 6oz. Pup one, a girl, came at 9:05 this morning, number 2, a boy, arrived shortly after at 9:22am. Then we had a 2 hour break...long enough for me to call in the troops (Lori/DaisyMae06). She arrived at my house in time to see number 3 come into this world at 11:22am, another girl. Even though my husband was here with me through it all, it was great to have her here for moral support and to keep all of you updated on the goings on. I just couldn't tear myself from Lexie's side. Thanks so much Lori! Then we waited...and waited...and waited. At about 2pm Lexie had a few more contractions and we (Lori and I) saw the water bag break. But minutes (which seemed like hours) went by with no puppy and worse yet, no good contractions. And Lori had to leave.:eek: I couldn't take it much longer so called the ER Vet. They said if nothing happens in the next 15minutes or so, to bring her in. We did take her, they xrayed to see where the pup was and if it was maybe to big to pass. It had not moved to far, but was small enough to pass, so they gaver her a shot of oxytocin, and boom...within 5-10 minutes number 4 was born, another boy! I was so afraid that he might be still born, but he came out kicking. Mom and pups are feeding and/or resting now. Here are a few pictures to get this thread started. There will be lots more pictures to come between now and 12 weeks, so check back often.

#1 girl - YELLOW - 6oz
#2 Boy - RED - 5oz
#3 Girl - PINK - 5oz
#4 Boy - ORANGE - 6oz

We're going to try & come up with names for them. #4 boy will lovingly be called Spook, because he had us spooked when his water bag broke & he wasn't coming. We're still thinking on the others.

those are some really nice babies. congratulations. you and mama did well. Looks like she is not in a whelping box? you will have puppies scooting everywhere in a couple of days.

I'm so glad things turned out well for you. The babies are perfect!! Don't be too anxious, mom will take care of most everything for now. Relax and take a deep breath. The weights were excellent!!

No, that's not daddy watching over Lexie and the pups. That's Lexie's "brother" (not really), Lucky. We had him fixed before we knew we would breed. The pups' daddy belongs the the breeder we got Lexie from; he only weighs 4 lbs. Here's the proud daddy's picture

Oh, they're going to be moved into their box by the end of this evening. That's just where Lexie felt most comfortable having them, so for the moment we let her have her way. She did such a great job, we'll let her have her way for now.

Rose it was Great to be there. I am so very sorry I had to leave.

Okay my experts...Lexie hasn't been out to go potty yet since before the pups were born. I carried her to the door when we got back for the er, but when I put her down, she ran (and I do mean ran) right back to her babies. Guess I'll have to carry her all the way outside?????

Rose, they are so beautiful!! I am so proud of Lexie and you. I am sorry that "Spook" gave you such a scare. Please give each a kiss for us and get rest..you deserve it. I am looking forward to watching them grow.

Congrats on the babies!! I think the name Spook is very fitting. Hmmmmm perhaps they all need Halloween names then.

Like Booey, Booboo, Casper or stuff like that...I'm not good with Halloween names sorry.

Those pups are georgeous!!! And momma too. I have a question though, what are those bands that you put around their necks to tell them apart? I've seen these in other pictures but I didn't want to get the wrong thing.

Cute idea....we'll have to think about that. I'm kinda liking Casper for the other boy. We'll let you know what we end up naming them.

The bands are just ribbon from the fabric store. I really like them (looks wise) because they have a shiney sheen to them just like the pups' black hair. We've had a little trouble with the knots staying tied, but I think we finally got it. Three knots are better than two. You can use just about anything I would think. If I would have kept (or could find) my big bag of yarn, I would have done that...but the ribbon is prettier!:)

Good Morning Rose, Lexie and new babies,
How was the first night? Did we sleep through? Has Lexie gone outside yet? She will when she really needs to. I used the ribbons also to keep our Lexie's puppies identities and I hot glued velcro to each end to make them stay on and to take off easily. Hope you got some rest last night. Have a great day!

Hi Charlene Sleep...what's that? No, for the first 3 hours after going to bed I woke up about every hour, but after that I think I got some sleep. But here I am up already by 6am. Mom and babies seem to be doing fine but Lexie refuses to go outside (rain doesn't help much). I even carried her out, but when I put her down, she ran right back in. She got out of her box once last night and seemed to be looking for a place to potty, also looking like a nervous wreck. She combed our bedroom, ran downstairs, back up, up on our bed, and back to the babies. Don't think she actually went potty anywhere tho. I'll be calling the vet today, so I'll ask them about it. She's eaten food and drank water & the "after whelping" recipie so I would sure think she would have to go potty by now. Other than that...I'm lovin' it!

Just a couple more...for now. The first is still last night before turning in for the night and the second, this morning - in their whelping box. Well, since she didn't actually whelp there, we'll call it their "home" for the next few weeks. Lexie did finally potty pee & poop just a few minutes ago:clapsmile . I was getting a little nervous about that, so what a relief. She sure is nervous to leave those pups though.

Awwwwww, congratulations!!! You must be so excited! I can't wait to get updates and watch them grow! :)

They are so cute....and look so healthy too! I'm glad Lexie finally went to the bathroom. How's the last little boy doing? the one that had to be induced? Nonetheless, they all ended up weighing perfect sizes so I'm sure he's blossoming like the rest!!! How has Lucky been with them?

Hey Yolanda Everybody seems to be doing fine. Lexie doesn't like being up in the bedroom by herself (the computer is downstairs), so she hops out now and then, but she seems to be a nervous wreck when she's out and about...walking at a very quick pace with many trips back up to the box to check on the pups. I hope what seems to me like alot of nervousness is not to stressful for her. I made an appointment to have the tails and dewclaws done on Thursday morning. Otherwise, I'm on vacation and lovin' these puppies!
