Brand new babies: 5 of them! Hi everyone. I am a grandma today and am suitably proud. :-) My little lady, Shadow, had her first litter (probably her only one). The vet x-rayed her on Wednesday and said 3 for sure and maybe a fourth. Well, he needs a new x-ray machine. lol We had three breach girls and then two normal little boys almost two hrs. later. All seem ok. A little problem on that first breach girl, I helped her a little, we got thru it. I am so proud of her. Not being a breeder, this litter is a big event in my home. I sure hope all the afterbirths passed ok. After the second breach girl, that afterbirth did not pass. I had to cut the cord. The third breach girl came and still no afterbirth from the second one. I waited an hr and a half then ran for 15 mins to get a burger. While away she had the first little boy and cleaned him up. He was her fourth. Don't know which after births passed or what cause of that short time I was gone. I thought after three she was through. Any advice on how to tell if all is passed? I sure don't want her to get ill or anything.

Congrats on the new babies .. I'm glad there were no problems while you were gone. I always stay right with mine until they are done whelping and to make sure they pass all placenta's. I would take her to the Vet first thing in the morning for a shot of Oxi just to clean her out.

Vet trip today Thank you all for the wonderful responses. We are headed to the emergency vet clinic today. All seems ok except I am not sure about the placentas all being out. Some stuff leaked on the clean top towel in her bed last nite so to the vet today we go. The babies make little noises that are so cute. They all seem healthy and hungry this morning. :-)

Wow, 5 of them for her first litter. congratulations. I'm glad to hear that all went well. My Ollie had her first litter in April, I'm glad there were only two since she is only 4 1/2 pounds. that first litter was a big deal here also.
