| With your litter of 6, how much (both timewise and amount) did you suppliment when they were first born and with what? (bottle, eye dropper) What "formula" did you use? Did you know she was going to have 6? They all look so good. Congratulation! My Lexie is day 55 today with a "large" litter and I want to be ready in all ways. Thanks for any help you can give me.

| Charlene, No, I had no clue she was going to have six pups. I took her to the vet for an xray on day 56 I believe, and they said just by palpatation, at least three maybe four pups, but they didn't like doing xrays?? (they are very much into the "natural" puppy birth thing and said they would only do xrays if she was having a problem)... so, Tea' is only 5.5 lbs pre-pregnancy and ended up over 10lbs. on day 60 when she delivered. She started delivering at 10:30 am and delivered her sixth puppy at 7:30pm. So there were up to three hours or so between the very last pups... This was her first litter and mine too. (I have delivered kittens and horses - I know, doesn't compare!). Tea' was exhausted and retained some placentas (I ended up pulling them out eventually) she had to go to the vet the next morning as her temp was going up...they gave her oxy, calcium, hydrated her and also at that time xrayed as they thought maybe another pup had been retained and that was the reason for her temp going up, but no pup, thank god)..sorry, long story.. but the end was wonderful, they put her on an antibiotic. I was feeding and I am still feeding her up to six-seven meals a day (3am, 6am, 9am, noon, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm) it may sound like a lot but she is skinnier than when she was pre-pregnancy and eats like she is ravenous at each feeding (lean meat like turkey, chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt, puppy chow, cheese and her vitamin in the evening meal). So to answer the supplement thing, even with six pups, I never had to supplement a single pup. The smallest was 3.5oz. I believe and the biggest was 5.2oz (he was the breech boy . All were gaining weight from the beginning so I never worried. (and you will worry, I was not only exhausted but second guessed everything I was doing). The gang here at YT was wonderful and helped with tons of questions. So, good luck to you and your momma and pups and please ask ask ask anytime you have a question! Debbie Tea' +6 |

| Debbie: When did you start weaning the puppies off of Mom and with what? Lexie is starting to nurse her gang less and I am starting to worry (of course) I did puppy mush with past litters but didn't have to start this early. All of them are still gaining weight, so they are getting enough, but as a mom you know what I am going through. How is the adoption process going? Any cuties left? I have the smallest female adopted out..a past family that wants a sister. I am so glad. Family is really good and that is all I want!!! I have another family visiting tomorrow. They want a little boy, so we will see. Sorry for the rambling....hope you are having a great weekend. Charlene

| I know so many babies, whether it be six or seven (in your case) take a toll on mom's milk supply...I started giving puppy kibble at 4-5 weeks (ground to a powder in my blender) mixed with goat's milk.. they didn't know quite what to make of it but I offered it morning and evening just to see if they would take some...and as they started to eat more, and as a another week went by and then had their teeth in, I left the puppy kibble whole and mixed it with goat's milk, then to water and puppy kibble to make it mushier..progressed now at 8 weeks where they will eat the puppy kibble dry and have their own water. If their mom Tea' allows, sometimes they sneak in a drink or two if she doesn't snap at them! ggrrrr, mommy growls. Love checking out your posts..you have some cuties! As far as babies being spoken for, I am keeping one girl, one boy has found a new home (doesn't leave here till 11 wks. tho) and I just started advertising today to find good homes for the other 2 boys, 2 girls. I am going to miss mass puppy kisses when I wake them up in the morning!! Debbie Tea' +6 |
