hi, my parents' yorkie just gave birth last satrday. unfortunately, the last baby, a boy, died the next day. he and his older sister were the two smallest out of 5 pups. The three oldest ones are growing like they are supposed to, but the youngest girl is still tiny. She has the thinnest legs and arms and little head. She is half the size of the oldest and biggest puppy. I make sure she eats every two hours....she has a hard time finding and getting on the nipple, but once she's on it, she won't let go and sucks hard. She eats the longest out of all of them, like she know that she needs the nutrition. I worry about her. Did anyone else have this experience? How long until she starts gaining alot of weght and becomes similar to her chubby siblings??? Oh and she cries sometimes too when she wants to be touched when her mom is not in thier bed...when i pet her or hold her she stops crying.

Does she cuddle with her siblings when mom isn't in the box? She could be crying because she is cold. Is she gaining? Are they weighed everyday? This is the best way to tell...because they can gain such a tiny amount everyday it would be hard to catch that or even a tiny loss without documentation. I weigh them at least twice a day...am and pm. She should be gaining everyday a loss or even no gain and just holding her own should be watche very closely. I have a scale that does grams or oz's, in the beginning my tiny one had to be weighed in grams (most accurate) because it could tell me if she even only gained a couple of grams between feedings. Hope this helps

thank you all. the baby girl passed away this afternoon. it was very sad. she started having breathign problems last night and she wouldn't eat at all. i had to drop formula in her mouth. and today she just started gasping for air and died after a very hard day. it's very sad. her one sister and two brothers are doig great and are very chubby....im thankful for that. thank you all for your advice and messeges.

I just found this post, I am sorry that you lost your puppies and that the little girl had such a struggle.

awww that is so sad .... breaks my heart and I am not even there .... you did all you could .... stay strong ...

My Sassy had three pups LAst Wednesday. My Sassy has been caught taking the only lil girl pup ( Pebbles) out of the box and moving her to a different side of the room. What is wrong with her or is Sassy jealous. Please help me understand her..

If I were you I would take the lil girl to the vet for a check. Don't for get to take mom and the others though they all need mom. good luck I hope all is ok.
