My furkids Donating Member | question on preemie yorkies I just got back from seeing my new furbaby....Lilli Rose she is ADORABLE!! August 13th just isn't coming fast enough! Anyway, Mom is only 4.5 lbs Dad is 3.5 lbs. Mom had 5 babies. 3 males and 2 females. 1 of the males died the next day, 1 of the females died 2 weeks later (she didn't look good...very very thin) and another boy died 2 days ago. The 2 pups that are left (1 of them is mine) look very healthy...eat good and are very active. The breeder who's male was used for stud said that because she had so many puppies and she was such a small Mom this could be why she had them a week early. This isn't my first yorkie from this breeder...it is however the first breeding of this female. I would like to know if anyone here has bought a "preemie" pup and if they were healthy. Did you have any health problems with them as adults. I will be bringing Lilli to the vet within 3 days of bringing her home. I would be heartbroken if anything is wrong with her... Thank you for any input

| pups The fact she survived is a plus for her..it is the survivial of the fittest in the animal world...we breeders are able to save many that would otherwise die if left alone...sounds like your pup was very strong and pulled through..if she has nursed well fromthe start, eats well now and grown, I would not be worried..BUT I would be concerned if she left the dam before 12 weeks..even a week longer, since she would actually be only 11 weeks...good luck PS...I would advise as I do all new puppy buyers...they have the vet appt already made..go from the breeders home to the vet for a check. |

My furkids Donating Member | thank you for responding. The pup is only 3 weeks now. As I said, I went to see her today. She is very healthy looking and is a good nurser..I do plan on a vet visit as soon as I get her. Thank you again

| Depending on how the Mom was bred, your pup could be up to a week older than some. If she is doing fine, I wouldn't be any more concerned with getting her than any other, but would leave her with Mom as long as possible, like Yorkie Rose suggested. |
