And I also wanted to add, I'm sorry if I came off sounding elitist or snobby, that was not my intention. I got Uni from a disreputable person, before I knew any better, on open registration, no papers in hand when I left (which would have been worthless anyway) and then I went and registered her with the ACA! I didn't know any better. Now that i do, I try to educate others. I got SO lucky with Uni not having too many health issues. she has been diagnosed with LP 3 and mild pancreatitis. She is on expensive glucosamine supplements, and I have to be super careful with what I feed her. I got off easy. Talk to others on here who had to take their babies to get liver shunt surgery, otherwise they would have died. We are just trying to warn you of what could happen and all the scammers and bad breeders out there. When you haven't seen it first hand it's hard to believe there would be people out there who would abuse these beautiful animals. Once you open your eyes, it's hard to NOT be skeptical of everything. I am skeptical of this person. |

When buying from large volume breeders like this one appears to be is just a potential for heartache in the health & $ department down the road. The puppy price seems cheap at the front end, but who knows about the future. Not to mention I do NOT want to pay & support someone who makes their living from their dogs. I also entered their address & another address on the same road (google earth) of a kennel called Raintree owned by someone with the same last name. You can see what clearly looks like kennel buildings in the vicinity. I can't stand to think of all these hundreds of dogs living like this! There are so many small breed mixes that can be found in shelters that came from breeders like this all over the country! A Morkie is a "mutt" and there is nothing wrong with that! I have a "mutt" myself! I have a Yorkie-Poo, so I don't have anything against mutts, just unethical breeders. I also came across an article on a pet store in CT called Westport and it mentioned they get some of their puppies from this breeder. So who knows how many pet stores across the country they sell to. It disgusts me! |

When you talked to her did you think she was going to say "I run a puppy mill, and spend as little money as possible, on my dogs.. they are kept in cages and their feet have never touched grass and I breed the mothers to death." Of course she is going to tell you how wonderfull her kennel is and how well they are taken care of. And I'm betting her dogs have never been seen by a vet. Ask her for her vets phone number. It doesn't pay to ask for references because she will most likely give you the names of friends and relatives. Please don't buy from a puppy mill. |

If you are set on getting a morkie, there are lots of small breeders out there that breed for morkies. Some that are close to you so you can visit them. You came here asking for advice, and you are getting good advice. Have a friend email and pretend to live close to them and ask if they can come and visit the facility. See what they say. |

That's just something for you to think about. |

I agree have a friend email her and try to get a visit. Even use a secondary email address and do it yourself. That's a good idea. |
:eek:Wow you people should calm down! I really appreciate all this advise but i talked to her and I also searched her up an she seems really reliable on what i found out about her except that she does sell to some pet stores but that's none of your business whether she does that or not. Her testimonials all sounded like the puppies were very good and taken care of and almost all of them said that their puppy smelled great and that they were groomed nicely unlike some other breeders they've bought from! Also one of them said that her kennels were very well kept and the fact that she allows people to come in a check out the kennels makes it seem to me that they should be in good shape also it said that all the dogs looked healthy and happy and that they trusted her with their puppy! I don't think its any of yours business of stating your opinions about were I'm getting my puppy and that I should buy from a shelter because were do you think most of those dogs come from a puppy mill, so they will be ungroomed and smelly too and I did look at shelters first and none of them in my area had any dog that would fit my lifestyle and where and how I am getting my dog is my business and i started this post not to get overexcited people to start posting on telling me not to get a dog from somewhere that they think is bad which is wrong of you to do that:thumbdown, that harsh when after the moment i saw it and fell in love and already put money down on it have people criticize me for trying to adopt my first family puppy but i put it up so that people could appreciate and feel happy that someone s adopting a puppy for their family and have a few questions! i can't believe how far some of you will go and it's kind of disturbing and this site was put up so that people with yorkies or a mix of a yorkie could just nicely share stories about there dogs or any questions that they had but to you people you get far to into and post rude and hurtful comments and it sometimes go way to far! :(...but thanks for your help and advise but i am going to get my puppy because she deserves a loving home just as much as another puppy from anywhere else!!!:D:aimeeyork:love: |

umm did you not read what i just wrote???I don't want to hear anything that's negative against my decisions its none of your business!! : 0:tongue019 |

You obviously have already made a decision. I sure hope you read over the health contract carefully. I just bought a puppy from a breeder 2 weeks ago and on the 3rd day he began having seizures. He was diagnosed $2000 later. Believe me, that if something is not right with that puppy, you will NOT return him. |

The information is out there and we can only hope that anyone else looking for a puppy and sees the name of this breeder will run the other way! That's the beauty of this kind of information being public. We can't make everyone care about unethical breeders, but many do and this info is here for them to see! |

You are supporting a miller, and if she's not a miller, she at least a large scale back yard breeder. You are not saving that puppy, you are putting money in the miller's pocket so they can continue to exploit these beautiful innocent creatures. So you already put money down on a pup, if you walk away now, that deposit will be a drop in the bucket of money lost compared to the vet bills it will accrue if it has any type of illness, and any illnesses or genetic conditions may not arise until later. Puppymill dogs can be ticking time bombs. This lady is not going to put up upset customer testimonials, she's only gonna put up positive ones. Who even knows if they are true. Why don't you try the email thing someone suggested earlier, I really think it's a good idea. Why you believe every single thing this woman tells you and not us is beyond me. We are trying to help you. Like i said before, we are not trying to get your money, she is. She will say anything to you to get you to believe her so you can send her more money! |

I agree though because there are so many that come here who want to avoid breeders like this at all costs and hopefully it will help the people who care! |

Do you really think she is going to give out references from people who have had complaints . I hope you have good luck with your puppy. Most puppy mill puppies are poorly bred with lots of issues. Being clean and smelling nice is a minor issue. It's what you can't see that ends up costing you a small fortune. As you yourself said most of the dogs in the shelters come from puppy mills. This is because they are poorly bred, and they will sell to anyone and do not care what happens to the dog after they sell it. Good breeders will have in their contract that the dog must be returned to them if the owner can no longer keep it. Does this nice little old lady have that in her contract? |

Sorry, but I will not endorse or encourage anyone to purchase a puppy from a commercial breeder or puppymill ever. I do hope you have some money saved for veterinary expenses.... |

Meghan, I pray to God your baby ends up being happy and healthy. I hope he/she is everything you wanted her to be. I also hope you have a nice big savings account for your new baby. Even a happy, healthy, and well socialized yorkie costs money, one from a place as what you described will cost even more. No, this is not opinon, there are statistics and plenty of posts in the sick and injured forum to back up my statement. I also want you to know that although you are going about getting a puppy in the worst possible way, when you run into trouble, YT will be here to help you out. One last thing, I'm a shelter volunteer with the spcaLA. None of "my" shelter dogs are ever smelly and gross. Nor do they live in teeny tiny kennels; when they stay with us while they wait for adoptions. I'm a groomer for them and I groom ALL the shelter dogs. No matter the size, breed, or coat type, they get washed, cut, and brushed so they can always look their best. |

And not all rescues or shelter dogs are "ungroomed and smelly." In fact, if you were to look into a reputable rescue, I guarantee that they will be MUCH better taken care of than a dog from a puppy mill. My pup was a rescue. He was surrendered for being too hyperactive (code for his original owners were probably too busy or lazy to train him), lived in a loving foster home, and then came to me clean and in good health. He is the best dog I could have ever asked for. IMO, I'd rather help out a forgotten, ungroomed and smelly pup from a rescue than support a miller. I just couldn't in good conscience give them my money for a puppy that will most likely be sick. I wish you the best of luck with your new pup. It sounds like you've already made up your mind. I just wish you would listen to advice rather than brushing off the helpful information others have given you. It just might save you future heartbreak. |
I've seen a really cute morkie at the dog park that was a really pretty ivory color. |
Hey, it looks like your mind is made up. Please don't take offense! People here just love their dogs and can't imagine them being brought up in an environment which is not the best. I, can only say that you have been given a lot of information about this breeder, and a lot of people have gone out of their way to try and make you see just a little bit other than that very very cute morkie your heart is set on. Obviously, in the end, the decision to get this morkie is yours and not anyone elses. People here are just trying to be helpful, and really hate puppy mills and all that they stand for. They may just go about it a little too strong. Like I said before - don't take offense. Everyone in the end wants the best for this morkie - and for you. |
Quote:
Yes she does it says that in the contract if the puppy is no longer in a condition that it can still be your healthy pet within a year that she can take it back and refund it with a new puppy of the same breed no cost. |

If they don't kill it, they lock it up in a cage for the rest of its life. My former foster yorkie Katie's [now] yorkie brother was locked in a cage for the most part of his first few years of life bc he had some missing toes and was thought of to not be worth any money bc of it. He was locked in his cage 24/7 and he has all but 2 teeth left from trying to bite out of his cage. He is only 3 yrs old. He was from a puppymill. Again, probably not changing your mind, but just putting the info out there for others to learn if they so wish. Perhaps you should take a look at some puppymill videos, see if that will open up your eyes. |
