| Any Suggestions??? Emma had her puppies two days ago and today she has been panting alot. I have been giving her calcium but she didn't eat till late this afternoon when I changed her food from dry to soft food she also drank a little today, but had not in awhile. When I changed her to the soft food I had to hold it in front of her to eat and had to do the same to get her to drink (when she did drink she wouldn't stop for a while). She seems to be very nervous about getting away from the puppies. This morning when I got up, I tried to get her to go out to the bathroom and she came out to the door but then the puppies started whining and she refused to go out and made a bee line for the puppies. When she does finally go out she will pee and run right to the door and I have to move her back into the grass to get her to poop. Do you think it is her nerves I have a vet appointment for her Monday but wanting to see if anyone had any suggestions |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Everything you are describing sounds very normal for a new mom. The first few days to a week, they do not want to leave their pups for much of anything and we have to spoil them a little by bringing their food and water to them (and sometimes even hand feeding them). If she is too nervous to leave her pups to potty, maybe put a potty pad or two in her nursery area that she can use without having to leave sight of her babies. The panting I believe is also normal (I think it takes alot out of mama when the pups nurse??) as long as it is not excessive & her temp is normal. Make sure there is a side of the box/bed that does not have a heating pad on it so mom can move over to when she want's to cool off. If her temp is normal and she's not in any distress, I think you're fine til her vet visit on Monday.
