Great news!

I got my first dog, Petie, from the local ASPCA. He was supposed to be seven weeks old when I adopted him, but later turned out to be only about 3.5 weeks old. He had every worm possible, coccidia, and came down with distemper 24 hours after we brought him home. He ended up with pneumonia, too. I was at my vets several times a week, too.

The first four months of his life were a real struggle, but I got him through it. He turned out to be the most wonderful dog ever!

Wow! You are really doing a great job with her. I followed your first thread and had been wondering how she was doing. I'm so glad I found this update just now.

Just seeing this and you have done a marvelous job.. you need to pat yourself on the back girlie..
I did notice that no one mentioned canned pumpkin with no spices in it.. what I do is put drops on a cookie sheet and freeze them.. once frozen I put in a baggie.. it is good for not being able to poop or with runny poops.. this will not hurt her at the same time..
keep us updated... what a girl... you will bond with this girl more then many for you are keeping her alive..
That breeder should be shot..

hugs to you.. anne

Love

I just have to share what a silly little girl I have! Ellie's little personality is really starting to shine now that she is feeling better!

Every time we take her out of her crate for potty time after her naps she is ready to PLAY! She is growling, hopping (she looks like a little bunny...lol), charging, and grabbing toys and shaking her head...The worry is rapidly turning into side splitting laughter and she is more entertaining than tv!

This little angel is such a blessing and though many of you say that she was lucky to have found me, I think I'm the lucky one! It is so amazing that something so small can bring such joy to our family!

You need to pat yourself on the back! You have had some trying & tiring nights. You have done a great job and I'm happy to see Ellie is gaining strenth and paying you back with a little entertainment!

Ellie is doing much better today! We have had a rough couple of days though it seems!

Sunday she was very "sleepy" and slept most of the day. I gave her NutriCal and Kayro every 2 hours and force fed her 5cc of Pedialite every hour. She finally perked up about 10:30 and had her first BM of the day...still loose.

Called the vet first thing Monday morning and he said that stools came back with only roundworms but that she was infested! He gave her Strongid and said that I needed to repeat the dose in 2 weeks.

Yesterday (still Monday) things weren't looking much better. Her urine output was greatly reduced and it was dark yellow in color...still having loose stools of a pudding texture. I called the vet again (this makes the 2nd time) and he said to up her Pedialite intake to 6cc every 45 minutes. This didn't seem to help and by 3:30 yesterday afternoon, her stools were very watery...time to call the vet again!

He had me check her gums (still pink but not as pink as I would have liked to have seen them) and check her for dehydration. She wasn't dehydrated but still very "sleepy" and not very active...still having to force feed her.

I upped her Pedialite to 5cc (this seems to be as much as I could get her to take before she started wearing it!) every 30 minutes. By 9:00 last night her urine was clear again and her output was back to normal. At 10:00 she seemed to be a little perkier so I fixed her a "buffet" of chicken and rice, canned puppy food, crushed dry kibble, and pedialite and placed it all in front of her...let her sniff it out and see what she chose...She went straight for the dry kibble and has been eating it since! She is eating on her own and drinking Pedialite from the bowl!...Her poop is back to normal, firm again, and free of worms!

She is back to her playful nose biting self! Mom was going a little crazy but Ellie seems to have taken it like a champ! She slept last night for 5 hours...she thinks Mom needed a little sleep after all that worry she caused!
So glad she is doing better. It doesn't take much for the young ones to get really sick!!! Keep up the great work!!!!

I had read your other thread before you got her and wondered how things were going. So glad I found this thread!

You are doing an amazing job!!!! I'm glad Ellie seems to be recovering now and becoming the playful puppy she deserves to be! Good for you!!

Congratulations to you both! I have avidly read all of this thread and your other one at this one sitting. I don't know how I missed it first go around, but you just can't read every thread on here. It was like once I started, I had to read every word on little Ellie. So glad you made it through the rough spot there when she was having the worm kill-off. I am sure that is what made her feel bad those few days.

I have a litter who lost their momma. They were born Feb. 28th, so they should be about the same age as Ellie. Mine are 6 1/2 weeks old now. They are really a joy to watch. Definately better than TV as you said. I make sure to have some one-on-one time with each of them every day in addition to the daily free-for-all where I get them all out of the playyard at once and let them crawl all over me on a blanket spread in the living room. I say it is for their socialization but it is just as much for my own fun and amusement.

You have earned every minute of joy this little one gives you. I know what hard work it is worrying them through the tender times. She will always be a special one because you will remember how close she came not to be.

On the gloomier side of things, hope you are still persuing some legal action on that breeder. I would also ask that you post her name. There are no legal issues involved with just saying where you got your puppy. But then other members can decide for themselves if they would want to have anything to do with her.

Bless your heart!

I have several pictures posted already and several videos but the lighting is really bad! She stays in my bedroom to cut down on the stress factor until she is 100% but the lighting in my room isn't good for taking videos! I have her "Birthday" pic ready to load...It should be up tomorrow.

For those of you who are interested, keep a watch on my blog! I try to keep everyone posted on her progress on there...a lot easier for everyone to follow her story there than on email and message boards!
