| Looking for a Yorkie in the NY area WOW This is a really hard thing to do i have realized. I've never been one to buy a pup from a store, but as time goes by it keeps looking that way. I am looking to buy a yorkie for a maximum of 700 - 800 no more. I've seen the comments from other posts and i've even spoken to some breeders. Why are they so expensive? one breeder told me 5000. WOW come on. I used to breed and train German Shepherds and my prices were not that high. I still hope that maybe here i'll find one. |

| Good breeders will get genetic and health testing done and get regular medical attention for their yorkie parents, and this isn't cheap. Yorkies are harder to breed than German Shepherds, yorkies often need c-sections, which are not cheap. Also, it takes a lot more effort to take care of such tiny babies and tiny mothers before and after whelping. Although, if you're looking at a backyard breeder or puppymill, the prices will be very high, because all they care about is money, not the breed or the health of the dog, which is why you should go to a good breeder and pay the price, or get a yorkie from a shelter or rescue. The breeder that quoted $5000 was probably not a breeder at all, just a puppymill trying to get cash...unless it was a champion from a show breeder, but I doubt the breeder would sell him then.
