You are so right!! Mojo is the same way. It's VERY hard to find one for 300 from a reputable breeder and with registration and good health but it can and does happen. It happened to you me and other people here on YT.

It does happen. My breeder didnt care about money she wanted him to go to a good home. But you are definately right about the research. I came across several scams when i was looking but i was lucky enough to be suspicious and never lost any money.

But if you wait long enough there will be a perfect little baby that just shows up one day and it will be right for you.

I welcome your opinion but the fact of the matter is that the price of a Yorkie depends on the heart of the breeder and the pockets. If they are seeking a profit or compensation for whatever then they will charge u the price that your willing to pay, which in most cases is 1000-2000 bucks. But if their heart is true and they really honestly have intentions of finding a forever home for a dog that didn't meet show standards, then you will be lucky to find a breeder who will basically let you adopt a dog for the price you are can afford and not the price you are willing to pay, which are both different.

a high demand means that the price that people are willing to pay drives the prices up. . There are some breeders that show Yorkies that are not govern my the laws of supply and demand but rather by the love of the breed. so really it doesn't really matter right now where you are. the price of a Yorkie is generally the same. But the hearts and motivation of individuals are very different.

That is very true. It really does depend what they are in it for.

I live in Ga, and beware if you look in the AJC, and you see a yorkie cheaper than 800, there is some sort of catch. There are a lot of yorkies up for adopting, that may be around that price range. Good luck finding a babY!

Rebeca, my daughter wanted one on Christmas of 2005. We ended up with a yorkie-chi. He was all that I could afford. Then, I decided that I wanted a yorkie so that I could breed to implement our income. Well, I was new to the internet and I got SCAMMED! I lost over $800 thinking I was going to get 2 for that price. Be Careful!!!! It broke my heart. I now have my yorkie pair and
four little pups, that I am trying to sell. Maybe you could get a mix, sometimes they are cheaper or if you are patient you could save and really look over a period of time and get the one you desire. They are absolutely wonderful pets!

If you are speaking of me; I have not responded because I have not been on this board for several weeks. As much as I enjoy surfing the internet, I do have a family, job, friends and a life not connected to the internet. Thank goodness! PLUS it is summer, and I am fortunate enough to live at the shore. So we are not home much until the weather changes; we are either at the beach, out on the boat, fishing, working, entertaining friends or sleeping. Once the summer hits, the computer takes a back seat to outside activities.
If you were not referring to me in your above statement, then just take it as you just got an abbreviated verison of my summer, thus far! :D
However, back to the original post. Sorry, I still disagree with you. You have had your experiences and I have had mine. They are definitely not the same.

Welcome to YT. Let me first say, I'm not trying to be mean or hurt your feelings, but.."implementing your income" is not a reason to breed Yorkies. There is so much that goes into breeding correctly, having quality Yorkies that have been evaluated by long time exhibitor/ breeders, handlers, or judges to find out if they are the quality to be bred. Did you do all the genetic testing that needs to be done? Did you check for std's , do you know their lines, the parents, the grandparents, etc. The only time a person should breed is to improve, not just to supplement an income. My opinion, but shared by many members of this board. By the time you do everything correctly, and spend what it takes for all the tests, there is not much money to be made. If a person truly wants to breed, it should always be for the love and the benefit of the breed, not for the $$$$$.

I don't quite agree with you there about a breeder who let someone adopt a dog at the price they can afford rather than what someone would be willing to pay. YOu are right they are two different things.
The reason I disagree is that from the experience of other reputable breeders if they let someone talk them into a 'deal' they always regretted it. Not because they got less for it, but because the home was not good.
If someone approaches me in the right manner, impresses me that they are looking for a nice pet, are willing to go whatever distance for that dog and to me their first concern may not be price but also what kind of breeder I am.
When we get to price finally I usually will offer them a very reasonable price and everyone is happy, my dog or puppy goes to a good home which I am more than welcome to follow up. I usually become their groomer as well for the dog and boarding as well. They are delighted to have found a breeder they felt they could trust;from my end, I am delighted I found a home that I could let my dog or pup go to and I get to sleep nights instead of worrying if I made a mistake.

That would make him a pet which as I understand from the poster that's what she wanted. The only time it may be an issue is if a buyer thinks they are getting one that will be 4 lbs max and end up 10 lbs.
A puppy sold for pet only, usually is one that is too big or too small or coat is wrong ie soft and breeder wants silk, colour going too light. There may be a conformation fault such as not a level topline etc.
There is nothing wrong with them, the breeder is still striving to breed within the breed standard but not every pup is going to be what we would want for the show rings so they are sold for pet for someone to love. these are not meant to be added to someone's breeding program nor should a pet quality regardless of pedigree be used for breeding or stud services.
I think there is some misunderstanding what breeding to the breed standard is. It means you are showing your dogs, only using quality dog that were shown or have excellent qualities for breeding but no matter which show breeder you are, you will still end up with some pet quality puppies in your litters. Those are sold for pet only spay/neuter.
Nobody says these were not produced breeding with care and selection, planning a mating just doesn't always work out the way you think it will. Not a big deal, that's where you get your pet quality which if you see them coming from a show breeder they are still excellent quality Yorkies far nicer than what you would see from someone just breeding pet quality to pet quality.

yeah by half a pound :p but what does that have to do with anything. I was saying that i found a yorkie that was in good health AKC registered and basically followed the standards for $300. There are several people on here with 12 13 pound babies on here.
