I just wrote a long reply but somehow it seems to have been lost in cyberspace....

I'm from Jersey (Monmouth County) and my Widget is from Sylvan Yorkies. I know that you've read this before on YT, but you are so much better off to get a pup that is a 'runt' from a reputable breeder like Stacy than to buy from someone breeds 'tinies' just after a buck.

I know... I've got both, and trust me when I say that the vet bills and heartache aren't worth the original 'savings'. Like my Mother always told me... "good things aren't cheap... and cheap things aren't good"... that usually applies no matter what you are buying!

Whether you get a pup from Sylvan or another breeder... I just pray you get a healthy and well bred pup!

I have a female yorkie, Cozy, that will turn one on April Fools Day. I did not get Cozy from Sylvia. I got Cozy from a local breeder but for much less than the going rate. I got her for $300 because she was sort of a re-homer at 4 months of age. Her first owner was diagnosed with cancer after she bought her and she did not think she had enough of a support environment to adequately take care of her. So she took her back to the breeder who agreed to try and resale her so that the woman could have all of her money back. The downpayment was $300 and non-refundable. So by re-homing Cozy for $300 the woman was made right again if that makes any sense.
The breeder currently only has one female that she is breeding because she only breeds her females once or less each year. Cozy's father (5.5 pounds) was not owned by the breeder. Cozy's mother (6 pounds) was taken out of her breeding pool and became a pet because the majority of her litter were overstandard. She had 6 puppies and all but 1 were overstandard. Cozy was 7.5 at 4 months and is presently 10.5. One of her siblings is 18 pounds. Cozy was produced from her mother's first breeding. The breeder said that she knew it was not from the father genetically because he has previously been bred to other females within his owners kennel and this was the first litter sired by him to have oversized puppies. The breeder is looking into starting with a new line since her puppies are now going overstandard by so much. I only know this because I wanted to buy another one once I got Cozy. She told me that she would get in touch with me once she has started her new line and is producing puppies to "true" standard.
So I do not think I would recommend her. She loves her dogs but they do have breed faults such as being oversized and floppy ears. I love both qualities in Cozy but they are not for everyone. Cozy's breeder will take her females out of the breeding pool is they exhibit "faults" but generally remains them once spayed for herself as pets. The breeders puppies are healthy but she said she also does not to "down grade" the breed but continuing to breed puppies that have faults.

Congratz on your new babie !! but i'm sowie that you are unhappy w/ the breeder !! but you wanted a cheaper yorkie the quality most of the time will be lower standards....

Lucky you....Barbara/Stradford is one of the top breeders in the country.....with a long line of Champions. Great reputation and just loves her dogs.....her dogs are raised in her home in a very meticulous environment.

You may want to check out www.Yorkiebabies4you.com. located in NJ I have no idea what the prices are but my breeder recommends them to people in the NE. Good luck in your search
