Susan Morgan, the person whom Cody Girl said she was getting a yorkie from, is who runs TopKnotch pups. She is a broker who gets her puppies from Brazil. | |

| ![]() Just wanted to chime in here as a newbie on this board, and as someone that really wished I had found this board months ago! I am also chiming in as someone that got conned for the term "teacup" and also as someone that has learned ALOT about the possible health issues, etc., associated with dogs of that size. My family has always been a family with pets. We have had our share of "pedigree" dogs and cats, but since we always spay/neuter our pets, this was never a biggie. Since becoming an adult some 30+ years ago; all my pets have been from the Animal Shelter, rescues or animals that just showed up at our house and stayed; so any type of pedigree papers was a mute point. My familiarity with how AKC registration worked was ziltch. I have 2 cats and a 4 yr old Shih Tzu--all from the Animal Shelter. My Shih Tzu (Jazzy Girl) is a total love bug and loves to play. But our cats, being cats, are not interested. So, I decided to get Jazzy a sister. I have a small house and my animals are always with us, in every room, so a small sister was a definite. We had Yorkies when I was a kid and I really liked the bred. I remembered them as being at least 7+ lbs. Since my Jazzy is 11 lbs, I thought a perfect match! Well then I ran into a lady in the mall that had a "teacup" Yorkie and I fell in love. Then I was on a quest to get a "teacup" Yorkie. I have to admit, when I get an idea in my head, I am like a dog with a bone. So once I decided on a "teacup" Yorkie, I was he** bent, on getting one! This resulted in me losing over $1,000 in an internet scam and then paying an additonal $1,200 for a puppy that was totally misrepresented. She was advertised as a "teacup" pup at 1lb.2 oz. at 12 weeks, who was AKC registered. I found this site: "Puppy Elite" on the internet. Their site, guarantee, etc seemed very above board. Cut a long story short, I bought a puppy from them. They are located in NY, I am in NJ. The gave me the option of coming to NY to pick up the puppy or they would deliver her to our home. I agreed to having the puppy delivered. BIG MISTAKE! Anyway, my puppy arrived and she was adorable. I signed the agreement, got her "AKC papers" and was told the final papers would arrive in the mail. I also got her shot record, some food, an outfit, etc. She was adorable and very active. "David" from "Puppy Elite" was at my home about 30 minutes and could not have been nicer or more caring to my new puppy or my other pets. He left telling me if anything changed they would take the dog back, yadda, yadda. About 20 minutes after David left, the puppy began these coughing spells. Although the coughing was intense it only lasted a minute or less and other than that she was playing, eating etc. I thought maybe she was getting too worked up playing with Jazzy, so I settled everyone down. I had a vet appt for the next day. When we went to the vet the next day, I got some interesting information. The puppy had kennel cough (which was not a big deal and a Rx took care of it); has allergies to dust( which requires lifelong medication) and I found out that the "teacup" puppy that I had been sold at 1lb.2oz at 12 weeks of age--was really 10 weeks old and weighed 2lbs 7 oz. . I immediately contacted Puppy Elite and was told the normal speech about "how they can not guarantee weight". OK, no problem. Next came the drama of trying to get the AKC papers. After I got educated, by calling AKC and finding out that the necessary registration papers need to come from the breeder. I then discovered this guy "David" from "Puppy Elite" is a broker. Needless to say, the papers that I got with my puppy's "lineage/heritage" is as fake as a counterfeit bill. But you know what??? It does not matter! We love her anyway! Yes, I greatly overpayed for my puppy. Yes, she may very well have come from a puppy mill--but I did not know it. Yes, her parents may live in deplorable conditions. But the big thing to consider is that those of us who may have purchased a puppy from a broker, puppy mill or pet store; did not do so to aid and abet animal cruelty. Many people (myself included) did not have the proper knowledge. However, this does not mean that we love our babies any less than anyone else here does! My baby, is definitely not what I thought I was paying for. Unfortunately, I have unknowingly contributed to puppy mills, dog brokers and less than ethical puppy selling practices. Would I do it again? Of course not, because now I have gained much more knowledge. But, I would NOT trade my newest baby away for triple what I paid for her. She was part of the family from the minute she came into this house. Bottom line.... Please do not be so judgemental towards people who have purchased a puppy unknowingly, from a puppy mill, a broker or a bad breeder. These puppies were purchased in love and with inadequate knowledge. Also I want to add, that in my search for a teacup Yorkie pup I did come across TopNotch. I will admit, that at first I was very leary about the puppies coming from Brazil. However after corresponding with TopNotch and talking to quite a few owners of their pups-it seems they are above board on every level. I can not speak from personal experience because I have not bought a puppy from them. However, I live in close proximity of Top Knotch Puppies, and they have a good reputation. Everyone have a good day; and let's all try to be as loving, as totally accepting, and as non judgemental as our precious pet babies are!!! |
