A backyard breeder is someone who breed dogs only for $$$$$$ . Those peoples are really glad when desperate peoples come knocking at their doors for puppies .

Thanks Glad, so far we haven't had any luck. Baby Blessing, will enjoy having a little friend girl playmate, oh my, she is such a spoiled little girl. What a personality she has, I think her second nik should be Sassy Boss, LOL. The breeder we bought her from moved out of state the first of March and we really don't want to have one shipped by plane, so I was wondering how can we REALLY tell the difference from a back yard breeder. I do know several kennel breeders (not yorkie breeders) they verbally tend to frown on anyone that's breeding if their not a licensed kennel. It is a real sore subject with them. That is why I ask this question. I just want to do our best to get a healthy bred little one. Glad I am so thankful to hear about your sis and will be praying for all to go well, also thank you for the poem and am so thankful all is working out there. I do believe things are going to get better at the work place. Warm vibrations on that one too. Continually praying for all to go well your way. Have a nice day. Patti ~~Baby Blessing~~

Default Understanding Breeders

The first step in finding a pup is understanding the types of breeding practices going on. Then you can compare Apples to Apples and Apples to Oranges. You can also decide (before seeing puppies...since they are ALL little and cute) what breeding practices you want to support. Some people feel that once the puppy has been produced there is no "damage" done in buying from a petstore, puppymill, backyard breeder or commercial breeder. Just remember when you buy a pup you are encouraging a practice to continue.

The "damage" of petstores is most continue supporting puppymills.

The damage of puppymills is they mistreat their dogs.

The damage of backyard breeders is they produce poor quality dogs and owners are often disappointed with their adult dogs. (remember, all puppies are cute) The damage continues when these poor quality dogs are sold and more poor quality dogs breed and make even poorer quality. Most backyard breeders don't know about the lines their dogs came from and health problems are bred over and over too.

Some people don't see a problem with commercial kennels but I would never support that kind of treatment of these little dogs. Imagine our dogs who crave human contact living in a kennel environment surrounded by 20 other kennels? Buy from them and their business continues.

Learn this stuff first. Keep doing research and save your money for a pet you won't be disappointed in. The difficult part is finding a breeder so learn what kind of breeder you want to find!

Guys~ I finally found my little yorkie yesterday. His name is Haru~
Haru is a 10 weeks old black/gold boy and weights around 1 3/4 lbs now.
(I'll post some pictures of him when I get my camera charged)

He's just sooooo~ adorable!!!!!!!! I love him so much.
He's also sweet, playful, smart, eating well, & most importantly, healthy.....
(hopefully he'll stay healthy as he is right now)

I found him through breeders.net
(however, it's more like a agent in stead of a breeder)
I paid $1400 for him. The price is not as cheap as i would want it to be, but i think it's alright comparing to many other places that i'd gone to.

BIG BIG thanks to everyone here who has helped me.
You guys are fantastic~

I am pretty sure that you don't get to see the parents from that site. But I could be wrong.

Thank you~ thank you~ thanks for the congrats

No, unfortunately, I didn't see his parents. Now you are reminding me this by bringing it up.

Lola LaRue,
You told me something about a pet insurance.
So what is it? What does it cover?
Which company's pet health planning you chose for cute Lola?
My HaRu has a 1 year health guarantee, finished 2 shots & deworms, the vet he went to covers the next shot that is dued in 2 weeks.
As what I was told by the seller, I only need to take him to 1 other shot.
Do you think I would need a pet insurance?

o~ I was charging my digital camera, & it was kind of wierd that it seems to take FOREVER to charge it.....
then I found out that the digi cam looks like it's broken (haven't used it for ages!)
I'll show all of you HaRu's pix as soon as I get a digi cam!

Thank you all again...cuz if it wasn't all of you, i wouldn't have enough knowledge to pick HaRu out of those many places I went.
(however, it stills seems there are hella alot out there to learn~ )

YT ROCKS!

I have pet insurance through Veterinary Pet Insurance (www.petinsurance.com) Through Jewel's illness they reimbursed us on average 40% of her vet bills which included a $3,000 MRI, standard check-ups, dental, and even her accupunctures. I will always use VPI since you are not limited to a Group Member Doctors. She was seen by a 4 different doctors including a Neurologist and VPI never declined a claim for her.

Jazzie has an exclusion on her coverage since she had allergies BEFORE I enrolled her.

Jazzie is 8 years old and her premium just went up due to her age but still it's only $34.00 a month.

I highly recommend it. I sure don't want your babies having to really need it but you never know if you would be faced with a unexpected accident or illness like we did with Jewel.

For the rest of you in So Cal looking for a puppy:

1. There is an organized Yorkie Get Together at Fashion Island on June 9th at 7:00 pm. It is hosted by Muttropolis. It may be a good place to meet breeders and other owners to get info. Not to mention it should be a blast.

2. Try www.shooterdog.com the guy who runs the site is really in tune with quality So Cal breeders including a breeder who is also a AKC Yorkie Judge.

PS: Fashion Island is a Dog Friendly Mall and most stores including the department stores allows ALL dogs in their stores. I saw several large breeds shopping at Neimans! It was an amazing & surreal experience to just walk into stores with Jazzie.
