Hi everyone,

I need to find Tulla a home. I don't want to give her up and my heart is breaking. I have spent so much time and money and just can not do this anymore. We rescued Tulla in October of 08. She came from a breeding mill. We had very extensive dental work done, had her fixed, had all shots and blood work too. Tulla has been back to the vet many times for bowel problems. She has a special diet now and can not have anything else. Problem is we have another dog and she is getting distant from us. Tink and Tulla are not bonding anymore and I feel tink is now suffering. We had to put up a baby gate because of Tulla's bowel trouble and now Tink is confined too. I have tried everything I can to help Tulla but I really think it is beyond what I can do.

Tulla is a very loving dog. She is also very attached to one person. She does not like to be left alone. She loves all other dogs.
She gets tummy and bowel trouble about once a month and need baths weekly. Please let me know if you have any advice or know someone that can help or wants to adopt her.

What are her tummy-bowel issues?

She gets bad diarrhea, sometimes bloody. She vomits. I have her confined to the kitchen and patio because sometimes there is no warning. I just don't know what to do?

What did the Vet say? IBD????

Yes he thinks IBD, No what are probotics? They want to charge me every time? I was taking her to work with me before because the vet said she might not like being alone. But now I don't work and have her on a special diet. I can't keep paying to take her in, Just can't afford it. I love Tulla, I just don't know what to do anymore.

I'm sorry you can no longer afford to take care of her. Has any Vet. told you what exactly the problem really is with her? Have you tried taking her off dog food and putting her on real food? Sounds to me she is unable to tolerate commercial pet food. Some Yorkies can't, and will actually get bloody diarrhea. I had a foster come to me that had been on medication after medication all because the Vet kept saying it was giardia. She was in really bad shape. I took her off her meds. and started her on bland "real" food and vitamins. It took a few months to figure out what she could and could not eat. She is thriving with a wonderful family in NJ.

Also yes I did boiled chicken and rice. She still had problems.

Iams low residue and a little bit of plain yogurt. Have you considered a 2nd Vet opinion? Like any profession, some are great, some are good, and some are at the bottom.

Like plain yogart from the grocery store? I will try that. I did not go to another vet cause I do think she has IBS or colitis. I just can't keep taking her in everytime to get a small prescription. I want to have one that last 6 months. They said no, They have to see her. The visits are like $200 - 300 a piece. And that is if I refuse blood and stool samples.

Yes, plain yogurt from the dairy Aisle. I can partially understand why the vet wants to see the dog, but they can also try to help you out from the financial side. That is why I suggested a different vet for another opinion. Besides the IBS, it has the symptoms of Pancreatitis. Best of luck, and hope it all works out for you and the little dog. Have you checked out what others here with IVS are doing or have done?

Does her stomach rumble and gurgle before she gets sick? If so, try some dye free baby Mylican. I believe that is how you spell it. It reduces gas buildup which can strees them out. We use it as needed, it is safe, and it works. Can be bought in any Pharmacy, and you give them 0.3 MLs with a little syringe.

I can appreciate your frustration but, do you think that maybe you could stick it out a little longer and maybe search here on YT for more advise on things to try for her IBD?

If not, then I'd try the Rescue route...you've been given two recommendations and I'd like to mention YTNR (www.yorkierescue.com) if the other two do not have available foster homes to take Tulla.

I am getting amazing advice and Yes I am thinking I might try to do some of this. The Mylican idea I love. She burps and vomits foam so I think that can be part of the solution. I did talk with a really wonderful woman from the yorkie rescue and they had some great contacts for me that can help with a new diet. I am really hoping this all works out. We really love Tulla. Any more advice or ideas are great. Also, any advice on diapering Tulla? Just so she can come out of the kitchen and play? I feel so bad that she is confined to half the house.
