My Story

I know everybody has a story... including me, but I hope that there is that one person out there who understands what I have gone through and the desire I have to owe a yorkie.

About 2 years ago I got a yorkie puppy from a breeder for my birthday. A month later I had to put him down due to genetic/health problems. This was devestating for me and my mom who had grown really attached to this puppy. It took me a while to get over this loss. About a month ago I found this little yorkie puppy. I searched for her owner and at first there was not success. I immediatly grew attached to her, although I tried not to, and thought I would end up keeping her (especially since she was extremely under weight and I was having a hard time getting her to eat). Well in the end a friend saw a flyer and I gave her back. Since then I knew I was ready for another yorkie however I don't have a lot of money to pay for one because to set one up at the vet is $85 plus $300 pet deposit.

I am hoping God will lead me to the right per, or will lead the right person to me who is will to honestly give their puppy a good home. A person who can sacrifice the money and truely give someone hope. I am not asking for a free puppy just someone willing to work with me.

I am being completely honest that's all I can do. I know there are sob stories out their but I hope you fully understand the truth in mine. I am not trying to get over on anybody just trying to offer a yorkie a loving home and make my own dream come true.

Thank you to all those who read. God Bless you. If you know of someone please call me at 979-450-5210.

You might want to try United Yorkie Rescue.. there is usually just a small fee for rehoming. Also Craigslist has dogs that are needing re-homing and usually only have a small fee.

If you got a dog 2 years ago and a month later had to have him put down, then, you should have been entitled to a refund from the breeder

jamiel 10-24-2008 06:54 PM

I was refunded but that is not a replacement and I wasn't going to get another dog from them.

RockinRhonda 10-28-2008 07:45 AM

well I dont understasnd ,if she gave you refund, why cant you use that money

RockinRhonda 10-28-2008 07:47 AM

I am going to assume that if this happened 2 years ago, the money may have been spent by now. The op was not ready at that time to get another puppy. This is what I am understanding from what has been posted.

Top the op:

So very sorry for what you have been through. I hope that everything works out for you.

RockinRhonda 10-28-2008 07:52 AM

ohhhh

jamiel 10-28-2008 08:06 AM

I am sorry if the story is unclear but that is correct. That was about two years ago. I had been wanting a yorkie for so long I was excited when I found this one. I bought the puppy at a discounted rate because it was a male and their last remaining puppy. Granted that probably wasn't the best decision but at the time I wasn't as educated now and since they were a breeder of puppies I didn't think there would be a problem. So once I had to put my puppy down I devastated and felt guilty because my mom had also fallen in love with him (she is not that much of animal person but she really loved him, yorkies can do that to you :) ) so I didn't want a puppy for a while after. What I really want from this story is that their are those out there with the love for this breed who can't afford the 1000 price. When the price is only that high because of demand. I understand the game I am simply letting all know that if you have a yorkie that you can't place and money is not your sole reason for selling, I have a loving home to offer were the puppy will get the care it needs with regular grooming, vet visits, teeth cleaned (cause I know that's important for this breed and is often overlooked) and spoiled. I am not trying to whine just merely stating. If I don't ask how can I ever receive right? Again, I thank all. God bless you all.

Ashley V 10-28-2008 08:11 AM

I would try a rescue... also search on petfinder.com

jamiel 10-28-2008 08:15 AM

I already know about the rescues and honestly they are just as much as purchasing from a breeder plus I have had some very bad experiences dealing with people at rescues (they are extremely rude mostly). So I thank who suggest but I check petfinder regularly. Plus with my past experience I just want to be sure I don't go through the same ordeal again.

Thanks! God Bless.

If you don't want to answer these questions here, please send me a PM:
Do you live at home with your parents?
Are you a student?
Do you have an income?

No I do not live at home with my parents. I am married.
I am a recent graduate however, I am taking classes at the moment and thinking about continuing on to a Master's degree
Yes I do have an income. My husband is a police officer and I have a part-time job as well since I am still in school right now.

Hi. I'm a volunteer with a local rescue. I'm also mom to five rescues. My oldest is Bella who is 5 yrs. old and my younges and newest and last (LOL) is Beans who is 7 months old. There are good and bad with everything. Good breeders and bad breeders and good rescues and bad rescues. Please don't count out rescue. All five of my babies are rescues. Lilly who is 17 months came through the rescue I volunteer with and her adoption fee was only $400 which included her spay, shots, heart worm, flea and tick and all her medical. She's very healthy. Beans was a private adoption/rescue. I paid $300 for him and then another $90 for neuter him. He is very healthy too (Thank God). However, like you I lost my baby. She was only 17 months old. The only one bought and not rescued. Breeder seemed fine. Nothing stood out really but the signs were there and even someone experienced like myself or at least should have been experienced missed the signs. Like you I had to put my baby down. We actually lost two in a year. Our 10 year old Newman to cancer and our 17 month old Jersey who my boys and husband brought home for Mother's Day for me to help my grieving. It's not about where whether your Yorkie comes from a rescue or a breeder. It's about reputation. PLEASE consider keeping your eye on rescue. There are so many to no fault of their own end up without homes. Yes, some rescues can be rude but you have to also understand the amount of idiots they have to deal with on a regular basis. No excuse but after awhile in order to survive some of what these fosters / rescues see you have to be hard but that doesn't mean they don't care. Any reputable rescue will ALWAYS have the best interest of the dog in mind and will ALWAYS be upfront about any health issue. If I can help in any way with helping you locate one please let me know. Elaine

:thumbup: I volunteer for a rescue and for an adult dog over 6 months they charge $295. For a puppy it's 300 something. I also rescued one of my boys and got him for free and he was only shy of a couple vaccines and was neutered. When you rescue from a reputable rescue expense covers all vaccines and spay/neuter.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your response. I know that not all rescues are like that. I have been looking around for a rescue puppy and still considering although right now its not my first option. Thank you so much. If you happen to run into anything in the Texas area please let me know.

Zanders' mom 10-28-2008 09:12 AM

Many rescue places need foster homes, why not foster? This way you can get a feel for the dog, if both of you hit it off, than maybe you can request to adopt? Just trying to help.

For sure, i understand that. I guess its hard for me because our local shelter is only $95 and that covers everything. I check their often but of course the small dogs are the first to go. They had a yorkie I wanted but they would not adopt him out because they said he was too aggressive. I think they put him to sleep even after I told me him I would adopt him anyway. So we will see. I am keeping my options open.

I don't know how close you are to houston, but here is a yorkie boy.

jamiel...I want to say this a gently as possible. If $300 for a rescue is too much money for you, maybe this is not the right time for you to adopt. Pups, even healthy ones are going to cost you money on a monthly basis. Yorkies, to be well kept, have dietary needs, in cold weather, clothing, hair cuts & that does not take into account vet visits when they get sick.
I know you are aching for one but it just may not be the right time for you.

I have money to pay for one but since I live in an apartment, moving to a duplex there is a pet deposit of at least 300 (it varies depending). I know about vet cost, I am planning on getting the puppy set up with Banfield pet hospital that is $85 to set up not including heartworm, flea prevention etc. Then from there it will be at least 17 a month for the vet and that includes all office visits heartworm test, fecal test, shot etc. I have money for grooming and all the above things mentioned. So... its not that I am just flat broke. For me to say that yes I don't want to spend 300 at a rescue does not necessarily mean I cannot afford one. It mean I am taking into account all other cost.

God Bless

I have to agree. Sometimes there are "surprise" expenses and you have to be prepared for those. Unfortunately it takes much more than just love to care for a dog.

Thank you, I have responded to this post multiple times but never get a response back. I responded again and we will see. Thank you and God Bless.

jrsygal37 10-28-2008 10:33 AM

I would also like to reccomend considering adopting a little older rather then a puppy. There are many perks to adopting older such as you will know how big and what look he or she will have as well as their temperment and potty training another plus. Rescues have many from 2 yrs. and older. Even a 5 yr. old Yorkie still has many years of love to give. Elaine

charmed239 11-04-2008 01:32 PM

What amount are you willing to spend on a yorkie?..the reason I ask is because I was in your shoes, when we got Riley..I wanted a yorkie sooooooo bad, but I couldnt find one within my price range,,,(I breed Bichons, and some times, the money I got for them still was not enough)..so what I did was get online google yorkies under X amount of dollars, (in my area of corse), I dont believe in shipping an animal....and low and behold there was an add for a yorkie for 250$ and he was only 3 hrs away, and it turned out he was only 14 weeks old,,,it was truly a dream come true, He came from a breeder, and he did have a respiratory infection, that was why the low price,,but I knew god gave me the idea to look it up the way I did, and I knew I was ment to have him, and get him the care he needed, He was up to date on his shots, and she was an older lady who didnt what to charge a large amount of money for a pup that neededn vet care right away...and luckly we have pretty reasonable vets in my area,,so I knew when I saw him, that he wasnt so sick he would die,,,so I took him home, he went to the vet the next morning, came home with an antibiotic, and has been perfectly healthy ever since,,,:D......just keep looking honey,,,,dont give up,,,just try differnt ways of looking up yorkies, like I did,,,,when I just typed in yorkies for sale is pa,,,,they were all 600 to 1600...but when I typed it in with the amount I could afford,,,I founnd him within 10 minutes..:p.....just pray, and god will answer when the time is right,,,..dont forget there are people who have unregistered unplanned litters,,,,who dont charge a foutune,,,cuz there not in it for the money,,,and if your not planning on breeding, you dont need papers anyways..;).....oh one more thing.....there are cross breeds out there..(I know some are very against this)..but there are morkies,,,(maltise and yorkie mix) and yorkiechons,,,(yorkie and bichon mix) and shorkies,,,(s**tzue and yorkie mix)....they make wonderfull pets,,,,,and sometimes you can find one of these that look EXACTLY like the yorkie parent,,,( I have seen this b4) and these mixes dont have papers, so they are usually very affordable,,,Dont give up hope hun...God will bring you your baby when, the time is right...he did for me..:hands:

jamiel 11-04-2008 01:39 PM

Thank you so much! I have been praying and just asking trusting God. Right now I am hoping to get an older yorkie from a lady on YT if I can get enough money in time... hopefully if not then it wasn't in God's plan. I will try searching as you did. Thank you so much for your encouragement. I ask that you pray to that God leads me to the right yorkie.

Jamiel

DONNADEE 11-04-2008 02:09 PM

Just keep praying and you will find your baby, some times on here in the for sale section an rehoming section they have yorkies that going to be used for breeding, but they where to small or to big and they give a good price for them, also try craigslist, you would be amazed how many yorkies are on there.

Most breeders replace a puppy for a congenital or genetic health problem.
I am sorry for your loss . I am one of those people that if murphy's law was an asset then its the main asset I have.
I have spent more money on illnesses over the past year on my yorkies then I could have ever imagined. Best of luck and dear remember a single $85 for the first vet visit may be a kick in the bucket for more cost. I know you are probably considering these issues also.

I just want to thank everyone who replied to this thread with your support. Today God answered my prayers. I meet Nancy (Little Bit) and adopted Maija. She is so sweet and cute! I want to thank Nancy so much for this opportunity. God has really blessed me. Again, thank you all and please remember that with God ALL things are possible. I am proof of it.

God Bless, Jamiel
