ear size, set, and structure is genetic. Puppies have more chance of having ears that don't stand if a parents has floppy ears. I personally wouldn't buy a puppy from someone breeding a floppy-eared yorkie. Not that floppy-eared yorkies don't make great pets though

Sometimes it's genetic, sometimes it isn't. Just depends....if the ears weren't taped, aren't kept shaved, they could flop and have nothing to do w/ genetics.

Not sure about the yorkie ear, but my german shepherds mom had one ear down and one up, and that is what my shepherd did, but, I think from what I've read, that's a lazy ear or soft ear or something like that, and it is hereditary

i agree with you about this. i would NEVER buy a floppy eared puppy even tho some of them are very cute. And yes, it is most likely it is a genetic fault.
