We had a great weekend, my puppy dog winning his class everyday and my open dog going reserve only to Lorraine Hayes, not a bad place to be after a 4 point major. My open dog is only just a year and has his majors and hopefully will be finished soon. |
That is great Debbie! Congratulations to you and Lorraine. You both were brave to go out into the cold snap we had this weekend too. It won't be long till your dog is finished. T. |
It is not cold here we had a beautiful day yesterday and today it was a bit rainy but we are used to the rain here. I got to spend a bit of time with Lorraine as we were set up close together, she is truly a very nice lady. She evaluated two of my puppy bitches for me, that was fun just to watch her look them over. She said not to let either of them go. I guess that why I was having a hard time picking just on to keep!!! We will be taking a rest and leaving for Lewiston Idaho on the 19th in hopes of getting my dog Doobie finished. |
Congratulations, Lorraine's breeding is tough to beat....so, coming in 2nd to her dogs is as good as win. |
Debbie - so glad the weather was warmer for you. It was down to 18 last night. Wow! I just hope it did not ruin all of our spring blossoms. Here it had been so warm and then this cold snap came back to hit us. And yes - Lorraine is hard to beat. So you were is top company. That was great that she evaluated your pups - great! Good luck on the 19th! :D T. |
Thanks Ladies.... I think right now I have two very nice boys, young but very nice and I am enjoying showing them. Both judges were watching Doobie and I think they really liked him. Reserve this weekend was a good win. I think Lorraine needs to stay in her own country...just kidding...I will be heading to Canada too , to finish my boys there but I will be checking with Lorraine first to make sure she doesn't have a male entered. I do not mind competition but, Lorraine is a tuff cookie to beat. But she is such a nice lady , and she can really put a dog together. |

Lorraine has been at it a lot of years, so she knows her stuff. My dogs have strong Pastoral lines since she and my mentor are great friends and go back alot of years. |

Do you ever go to Asheville, NC in June. Great little show. Not too far from GA. Are you doing Perry this weekend? |

It is so much fun. I promise you will be hooked. L |

She is a precious lady. She is originally from Yorkshire, England. She has been breeding and showing for 50 years. She owns Nic Nak High Caliber. He spent several years on the AKC top 10. She is also an AKC judge. The fact that she liked Conner enough to give him such a nice win says a lot about his quality. Of course, we already knew that. |
I am torn between Chesapeake and Lake Waccamaw. VA Beach KC or Myrtle Beach Kennel Club - what a choice! Tami. Robbie let me know if you are doing Chesapeake and I will too. If not, I will go to Lake Waccamaw. L |

I am not going to Perry this weekend - since they are only having Specialities for Sunday and yorkies are not included. I hate to travel all that way for one day of showing. So I will stay home and just practice with the girls. Perry does have a full weekend show on May 11th - 13th. I do plan to go on the 12th and 13th. Perry is nice since they divide up the groups into the different areas and not as bad of an echo. Plenty of camping spaces too. Loved it last year, even though it rained! T. |

Congratulations, DebbieRay. Do you ever show in Seattle (believe it is in March)? |
Yes I do go to the Seattle shows and it is soon going to be a lot easier for me as my Daughter is moving there at the end of this month so I will have a place to stay and a great helper for the shows. We haven't been to a dog show together in about 15 years, it will be so much fun. Maybe we will see you there. |

1 Attachment(s) Here is a picture of the open dog class Kimber King just sent me this morning. First is Terrie Harley, then Lorraine and then me and Doobie and last Kimberly. You can see clearly that the out line on Lorraine's dog is beautiful. Doobie's day is coming soon, he is still a puppy!!! Attachment 109165 |

That is a good looking group of dogs! I would think that anyone of them could have taken the win. How old is Doobie? He has a lot of coat for a puppy. Do you wrap his coat? You did a great job stacking him. The most beautiful dog in the world can look bad if not stacked correctly. This a good example of conditioning and showmanship. Kudos. Laurie |
Thanks, Doobie will be 14 months on the 21st of this month. I do not wrap his coat as of yet, he is put in emu oil that I get from Peggy Nygard. His coat is just touching the ground, but I will have to wrap it if I decide to special him later. He is just the sweetest dog ever. |
If you look close you will see that I did not have to stack Doobie, he is a natural, even I can not make him look bad!!!! Look mom no hands. |

Great looking group of dogs. One thing I've noticed about Lorraine is her presentation is very consistent....she never removes her eyes from her dogs.... |

Wow! All the dogs look great! Congrats to all! |
She's very old school. Doesn't look at a judge. Just the old set of rules. I get it from my mentor all the time.....Walk your dog into the ring, walk your dog out....it's a dog show.....never brush a dog on the table, it's inconsiderate to make the judge wait...place brush on the table in case the judge wants to use......Don't look at the judge in the eye, watch for hand movements....Heck if I miss a cue....I can be sure I'm gonna get it on the ride back to the hotel..... |
WOW!! I don't remember anyone ever telling me what I did wrong now that I think of it. My only mentor was Tim Reese and Randy Winters about 27 years ago but they just told me about coat care and grooming, mostly on Shih Tzu and poodles, never did they critique my handling. And more recently Jay Amon on grooming the yorkie. I have learner by watching and used what I think works best for me. But coming up against Lorraine in the ring has been a great learning experience for me, now I have a goal the next time I run into her:) |

Jay Amon was/is hoot, such an artistic mind. |
